Here is my question I have pretty darn good hardware all around in my computer. (see below) and it is set up with win 98se. I have substantial hard drive space with 4 20 gig partitions and windows in its own 20 gig with 13 free to spare. My question is this. How come my hardware is about up to par (except that it is a slot athlon) and yet i get my arse kicked by so many people in 3dmark2000. The best i can post is like 6200 or abouts. My question is what is holding me back and is there any windows settings (i know windows pretty well so be specific) like the limiting the ram trick or whatever in mscofig. Also what is a good swap file size?

without a doubt, the cas3 ram is taking a big bite out of your performance. i'd get myself some good cas2 ram. borrow some from someone if you want and see the difference it can make!

im sure youve tried(but just in case) try adjusting the graphic settings on the test-i just started using 3dmark2k and i was a little unhappy with the marks even though i was getting a excellent/excellent/good rating. After i started trying to tweak i saw that the test was running in 16-bit at like 640x400 or whatever-but I was using 32-bit at 800x640 after i made the changes in the 3d program and reran the same test it went up over 1000 marks. if ya havent already try it.

Have you tried enabling AGP fast writes and 4-way interleave on your RAM? If you can set your memory timings individually you might be able to run 2-3-3 or 3-2-3 or something (unlikely but you can try).

Oh yeah, and if you're not already using them try the nvidia det3 drivers - 6.31 seem to be great for most people, a few find the 6.35 or 6.47's are more stable or faster, but see what works for you.
