View Full Version : k6-2 500 o/c 550 on a J-530BF
i've got a k6-2 500 on a J-530BF mobo. i tried o/c'ing it to 550 but when i boot up i get this windows protection error.
my mobo supports upto 550, i've got updated BIOS, experimented with the Vcc and FSB.
my fan is something that you insert on the mobo. no thermal paste on it.
need some help plzzzzzzzzzzzz
first off dood
GET SOME THERMAL PASTE of some kind even the silicone based stuff will make a difference to your cpu's temperature m8 and make it a lot cooler when overclocking and it's also cheap I can get a tube from maplins or tandy in Scotland for £1.50 (work it out yourself!!) the best thermal transfer paste is artcic silver (this is what I use) but it's not cheap m8
NEXT what voltage are u hitting the cpu with ie. cpu core voltage if u are using the standard amd recomended core voltage of 2.2vcore to 2.4vcore this will not be enough for when u try to overclock the cpu try going up to the next smallest core voltage setting ie. if u are using 2.2vcore try 2.3 or 2.4vcore or if u are using 2.4vcore try 2.5 or 2.6vcore (not all mobo's support 0.1vcore steps so u may have to jump from 2.4vcore to 2.7vcore or 2.8vcore ) upping the voltage will cause the cpu to generate more heat this is why I'm advising u to use thermal paste between the heatsink fan unit and cpu
Keep a close eye on the cpu's temperature (check this from the bios screen often under integrated peripherals ) if the temperature gets too high u may need to get a better quallity heatsink fan unit but from past experience u should be ok
give it a try and see any problems then post them up and the team will help u out pal
cheers

I just picked up that same board & Chip @ a putter show. And came here to see about overclocking it. Good advice here!!
I set my multiplyer to 5.5 + voltage to 2.4. But putting out 2.38 Volts.
CPU temp running around 49.47-49.82 'C.
With past, heatsink,fan.
Running fine so far. Tried 600 it would only boot into safe mode, NO more.
Thanks again.
Dave.
