View Full Version : What AMD cpu to buy?
I'm the market for a new AMD cpu...or actually it's a friend of mine whois interested in buying a new system and the thought about buying AMD... I've only owned a Tbird 1100 which I had running stable @ 1250mhz but thats is...
What would give me (him) the best bang for the buck?
Also if he decides to go with AMD what mobo and mem do you suggest he get?
All help appreciated!

From what's reported from the many posts, regardless of the week and four letter codes, the 1700+ DLT3C has highest probability to get to the highest oc frequency under 1.9-2V on air, compared to 2100+ and 2500+, due to its high current and low transistor threshold nature.
If you have a good PSU and a good HSF such as SK7 or even better SLK-800U, it should have a good chance to get to 2.4+ GHz on air.
As of today, if considering the price, the 1700+ is the best deal, until Barton can show it can consistently do 2.4 GHz on air.
For new comers, this link may help: Tbred B 1700+ DLT3C 2.5+ GHz air results (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187887&pagenumber=1). It contains info how to overclock CPU and FSB, HSF, cooling on air, PSU, ...
