View Full Version : Unlocking TBird
I am odering a 1ghz Tbird very soon and a KT7A motherboard. I want to be able to run this at 7.5x133 to utilize the 133 mhz FSB. This is my first time at attempting anything like this and I read that the best way to unlock the L1 bridges is to use a conductive pen. My question is that if I mess up can I clean off the conductive pen stuff and start over? Thank you very much for the help!

Why don't you just use a pencil instead?
It works just fine and even if you make mistake, you just need to erase it and start over.
Ok ... I can use a pencil. Then my next question becomes what kind of pencil is best to use? Do 0.7 mm Bic Mechanical Pencils work or should I use something else. Thank You Very Much for the Assitance!

Just a standard number 2 pencil will do the job

just make sure it is HB lead.... it is a little easier to use a mechanical pencil... the tip is nice and fine.
For about $2 you can purchase a .5 mm mechanical #2 lead pencil. It's fine point will enable you to do a reasonable job of connecting the L1 bridges. If you make a mistake, just erase carefully and start again. Be careful to ground yourself when working on the cpu, and don't put undue pressure on the cpu or you can bend the underlying pins. A magnifying glass and good lighting also help.

I recommend the conductive pen. If you mess up just use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol....it takes it off fine.

A lead pencil is fine to use, but you may end up needing to redo it...
if you want it to last, go to a autoparts store and get a "rear window defroster repair kit"

yes if you use the pencil it will be necissary to re connect the bridges. i dont know quite how often but i recall someone doing it 1x a week. if you take your comp apart alot this shouldnt be a problem but if your only taking it apart a couple times a year go for the pen and clean it like was posted above.
