View Full Version : First time OC'ing
This is my first attempt to overclock. I have an amd duron 700 running on an abit kt7 raid mb. I did the pencil trick using an hb lead pencil. When I tried to bump up my multiplier it would go up to 7.5 and register as a 750. However when I raised my multiplier to 8 or 8.5 the cpu speed registered at 700 again( both in bios and using si-soft). I figured that my core wasn't able to be bumped up that much but when bumped it up to 9 just for ****s and giggles it registered in bois as a 900 but when windows tried to load it would give me an invalid system disk error. then when I rebooted immediately afterwards and tried to reset my bios it would not load my bios and I had to use the jumper to reset my cmos. Anyone have an idea why this may be happening? I did not raise up my core voltage when trying to go up to 800 but I did when I tried to go to 900. I raised the core voltage by .5 (from 6.0 to 6.5 I believe). Can anyone offer me any tips on improving my results? Let know if any more information is needed.

Well, try upping the voltage a little more. I assume that when you said you raised the voltage from 6.0 to 6.5 you meant 1.60v to 1.65v... My duron 700 runs at 1.65 by default. More juice might help make things more stable. As for why you can't post with 8 or 8.5 multipliers, I have no clue. Check your bridges again, then check carefully. I tried the pencil trick and it looked good, then I magnified it a bit and it looked like crap. I'm waiting on a conductive pen before I go any further.
the conductive pen and the rear window defogger kit work`s very well try one of those this probabley make a difference

Hey Kat, my Duron 650 just came in and Im gonna use the defrost pen trick on it to get it at 900mhz and 1.8v.
Will post if it works or not....
Rear window defroster? That's a new one to me. I havent heard of that trick. As for the bridges I think Im going to go with a conductive pen. Since I posted this I tried to redo my bridges a few times thinking I may have not connected them completely, even trying different pencils, but since the first time I tried it now I cant raise the multiplier at all. So I am mystified since it worked the first time but not since. Im pretty sure it has to be the bridges so hopefully I will get a pen soon. Thanks for the tip on raising the voltage.
