video card problem-NEED HELP TODAY

I have an athlon classic 600 non OC'd-well all i did is removed my video and sound card, and moved the sound card down 1 pci slot that way I could fit a fan in the space between the two cards, to cool my video card (video card is in the same spot-brown pci-looking slot at top) after putting the cards back in and booting up after the Win98 screen it will not continue in regular mode (only in safe) its just sits at a black screen with an underscore falshing in the upper left hand corner??? how did i mess something up??? if the video card is messed up then how does it show the dos/gateway/Win98 screen but nothing else-in regular mode(safe mode will run)

That brown "pci-looking slot" is teh AGP slot....make sure your video card is seated in it right. Then do the same for the sound card (what kind is it? and from what pci slot did you move it to?). Did you try taking the card out all together? or moving it back to it's original place? When I installed a network card in my roommates computer it did the same thing...got to that screen and just sat there..but eventually it booted up...took about five minutes but it did. So leave it sitting there for a while and see what happens...when and if it does come up it'll probably tell you what .dll or driver is missing

Did you uninstall the sound card in windows before you moved it? Things can get all kinds of screwy if windows is still expecting to find the sound card in pci slot number one. Try putting it back where it was, see what happend. Is the mobo old? I've got one that is several years old and some of the slots(ISA) just don't work anymore. It really doesn't sound like a video card problem, since the system would be unlikely to POST if the card wasn't seated properly.

well thanks guys- i go everything back working again-had reinstall the drivers and all of windows. but still have all o fmy files since i unhoke dmy slave hd and them reloaded. now i cant fit the fan in but what is better a working fan or a working cpu ??!! thanks for all the help guys.
