I got an 850 Tbird running at 1 ghz (10*100) on a KT7-RAID cooled by a FOP-38 but it overheats at 1020 and above so i just orderd a 55 w peltier and a coldplate but it just came across my mind is 55w enough ?

i havent gotten the peltier yett but i should have it by monday....

Man, I hate to tell you this, but if you try that you will kill your CPU in about 20 seconds. First of all No, that isn't enough of a peltier. At the speed you're talking about you're CPU is probably already pretty close to putting out 55W of heat, so adding a 55W peltier is going to be more insulation than heatsink... which brings me to another issue: that heatsink is not enough to use with a peltier. A peltier creates more heat than it moves from the CPU, so in this case you're probably talking 50W CPU heat + 55W Peltier heat = 105W+ total heat... basicly something would end up melting. I tried a 73W peltier and watercooling on a TBird @ 900Mhz and my temps were over 100F.

If you want better temps without spending a lot of money on a watercooling system then get an Alpha cooler. If you can't send the peltier back then maybe you could make a video-cooler rig of sorts... just do a little more research on it before you try it. I hope everything works out.

I got an alpha cooler to and the FOP is 2° cooler then the alpha...

Are you using thermal grease? They are both good heatsinks... just odd that it would be overheating, unless you are at a voltage above 1.85V.

I just removed the FOP38 and cleaned the cpu and putte on some new artic silver...still the same prime 95 torture test wont pass but all others will...so i decided to test something new i twisted the fan on the FOP38 so that is sucks instead of blowing and then i put a 60 mm pipe from the FOP38 and out of the side on my case lowerd my max temp from 48° to 46° and idle from 28° to 24° ... if it just would do the damn torture test in 1000 as it used.....

55w pelt = bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

i have a 118w watercooled pelt on my duron (see below) and it's barely enough to make any kind of a difference. as mac42 says, that tiny pelt will just be an insulator between the hsf and tbird. it's not that the fop38 couldn't cope with a 55w pelt, cos it could, it's that the pelt can't cope with the heat chucked out by the tbird. the tbird is throwing out around 50-55w of heat, and the pelt can only pump that much at its very maximum, which yours will not be.

if you want to try some adventurous cooling, then build a watercooling rig, cos that really does make a difference over aircooling.

im not sure what kind of finish is on the bottom of that hsf but try lapping it when i did my hog i got 3C diference , didnt touch my swiftech it had a nice finish ;D
