Howdy all,

A quick question.

Win XP (Pro, SP1, all current updates) sees my AMD Athlon XP 2000+ (recognised as such in my Asus A7M266 bios [ver 1007] as an XP 2000+) as a Duron 1.7gH.

PC seems to run fine, my 3dMark03 figures seem normal for my system (XP2000+, A7M266, 512mB, GF2 Pro) of 199 3d marks so it doesn't seem to be affecting system performance.

Any reason for this and how can I change it?

thanks

Good question, I think so!

Definitely set my mb bios to auto FSB speed when I installed the processor (replace 1333mHz TBird) and am reasonably (but not certain) that it was running as a AMD Athlon XP 2000+.

BUT I did notice sometime later (2 weeks) that the FSB seemed to be set at 100 (1250mHz) and at that time also noticed the Duron moniker in WinXP.

It may be possible that mb defaulted to 100FSB which may have confused WinXP?

If so how do I unconfuse WinXP now that the FSB is back at 133.

Good to see a few locals also browsing the v.good oc.com site- oc.com.au also very good.

cheers

Just set the fsb to 133, not auto. This is a common prob that even I had with my 1800xp. U MUST manually set the fsb. Give it a go.

I have a similiar problem with my XP1700Tbred B

When I boot up it sees it as a Duron 1900. I have it running at 12.5 x 150 FSB.

ECS K75SA Pro Honey-x Bios 03110
AMD Athlon XP 1700 tbred B

Sorry i forgot to add that

My Computer properties shows it as a
Duron processor-

CPU-Z shows its as a thoroughbred XP but the description says
Duron processor-

I have tried the following

reseated the processor- reapplied thermal compound
reflashed the bios- Honey-X
set the FSB to 133
set the FSB to 100
set the FSB back to 150
etc...

It always boots as an Duron 1900 !

HELP !!!

have any of you tried clearing your CMOS and then manually reset the FSB and multi. back to default settings of the CPU you are using to see if it still sees it as the 1700 or whatever you are using?

I'm suprised that no one has picked up on this one yet...

Make sure that you don't have any settings in your BIOS where your L2 cache is disabled. That will definately give it the Duron name.

Thats a good suggestion...I forget about that option since I always have it turned on in the BIOS...and I make sure it is enabled after having to clear the CMOS or after a flash...
