while we waited for the chip to cool, we started thinking the board might be messed up too... we got my roommate's 900 t-bird (which we have yet to install) and set it on the mobo... nothing... black screen... i'm really ****ting bricks now... "could the hot cpu mess up the mobo too?" i thought to myself... frightened, i thought maybe my roommate's chip was messed up; further, i thought what if the mobo messed up and shorted my rommate's cpu?? damn... i tested my roommate's cpu on my comp and it worked fine though... THE VIDEO CABLE!!!
there is hope, i tell my friend.
we put the 900 chip back into his mobo and boot up and this time adjust the video cable...excellent!! we see life...
he runs and gets his 1000mhz chip, which up to now had been sitting pretty in teh cool living room on a static free bag.. we put it in and restart!!!
....
...
we vainly shake the video cable to get some response from a working cpu...nothing....it's dead...
**** it, i tell him....it's fried...
damn, that means i have to work tonight (he had called off in anticipation of playing games all night long on his new comp), he said...
look, i tell him... try returning it (bad ethics, i know, i know)...just act completely clueless about any cpu installation...say, you followed the directions to the dot but it won't start..
to make a long story short..
he's getting a new chip...
and we're gonna try again...
this time,
we'll make sure the bloody heatsink is well clamped, like the tight vaginal walls of virgin honeypot...
take care feloow overclockers...
