Details:
Motherboard =
Gigabyte GA-5AA
ALi Aladdin V AGPset

CPU =
AMD K6-2 450 AFX
2.2v Core / 3.3v I/O
A 9940 APMW

General =
128mb SD-RAM 100mhz
3dfx Voodoo3 2000
Soundblaster Live!
4.3 Gb H/D
24x CD-ROM

I have successfully overclocked to a 475mhz and this system is always stable. I have gotten it to 500mhz according to the bios, but when windows starts, it is unstable and I get error messages saying "error in kernel.??? and error in ole32.???". Can anybody help, if you the settings for over 500mhz that would be great, but if you can only find the settings for 500mhz thats fine, and if it can only be stable at 475mhz then thanks for your help anyway.

Thanks in advance.

i just replaced my k62 400 oced to 500 with a k63+

To get the K62 to run at 500 I had to run GREAT cooling, open case, and 2.5v. It was very stable, this was using a FIC board but I just changed to a GA5AX with a k63+. Does the AA have 105, 110, and 115 FSB? You might try changing those. With this chip it is better to run a higher FSB with a lower multiplier.

You could, with a great chip and cooling, hit over 600 because these chips will recognize a 2x multiplier as 6. But try running a high FSB since it will give you better overall system performance...however, remember that all your slots will be running higher too (including hard drivers)

ok jato dude
first off the ga5aa is an ace mobo. to overclock
it's one of the best socket 7 boards around
so u have a k62 450 afx cpu and want to oc. it ok m8 here goes
what cooling do u have ie case cooling and cpu cooler
cause to get the best from the k62 u need to keep the sucker as cool as possible
has the cpu's heatsink fan combo ( is it a good cooler or a cheepo one if it's cheep get a good one ) been fitted using thermal or heat transfer paste ( if not get some (arctic silver or copper slip ) these work best tho. I prefer arctic silver ) this will much improve your cooling for the cpu . does your case have cooling fans fitted or is an isa or pci slot cooler fitted
now lets oc. that motha!!
try for 500mhz first
use the dip switches or jumpers to set the following
5.0 X multiplier , 100mhz fsb and cpu core voltage to
2.4vcore . and try to start your computer this should get u to 500mhz and be stable if not then try 2.5vcore and try booting up again
if u want to get more a better hit speed wise then try 4.5 X multi. 110mhz fsb at 2.4 or 2.5vcore = 495mhz but u are not just overclocking the cpu but your system
too which makes the whole thing faster
other settings u could try
525mhz 5.0 X multi. 105mhz fsb and try up to 2.8vcore if the pc posts but fails to get into windoz or fails to verify the dmi pool try going up 0.1vcore if it still hangs or fails at the dmi then up your I/O voltage to 3.4v or 3.5v and try again this should get u there

cheers
