wht is it p4 cant be unlock has any one tryed?
The multiplier lock is performed inside the cpu, not on any external contacts that could be modified.
put it this way... to unlock a p4 you would end up destroying the chip.

the thing you would need to change is under the core which if you mess with that your processor = dead.
intel is smart. (or dumb in our eyes)
Here is a link for unlocking Intel CPUs.

p4's have been around for quite some time. if it was possible we would have found it by now. ;)

Sorry. Although it would be great to be able to change the P4's multiplier, it's just not possible.

The multiplier doesn't bother most of us. We've found away to change it. (buying a mobile chip) ;)

I wasnt aware u could use the laptop chip in a desktop
you can with some. but you don't get near the performance as a desktop chip.

whay limited voltage and fsb???
no its just the chip can't perform on par with desktop chips.
mobile chips are designed to use as little power as possible to extend battery life. that comes with a price in performance.

Taking the heat spreader off or attempting any other "wire" trick etc. has absolutely nothing to do with it, whatsoever, at all, period, end of story, can we get a flashing sticky on this topic please dear God amen!

That's not true, maxvla!
There is a small tool you can use to disable diverse cpu functions.
As soon as u disable the "thermal mon" function a p4m 2ghz cpu runs as fast as a normal p4 2ghz! ;)
ftp://ftp.heise.de/pub/ct/ctsi/ctp4.zip
Just uncheck "thermal mon" and close the prog...that's all u gotta do!
You can also start it via the registry with a parameter at every windows startup.
WTF? Mobile P4 chips are unlocked?

No, Mobile P4s are not unlocked. If you stick a P4-M in a desktop board, the multiplier will default to a 12x multi - that's what multi it goes to when it goes into power-saving mode in a laptop. So with that 12x multi you can easily hit 200+ FSB speeds.

That's a P2 setup (and a flippin' hilarious article). And no, there is no practical way.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. :)

just ticks me off, do you guys think they will ever be able to totaly elimnate overclocking i sure hope not
they are able to do it any time they want. now whether they will or not is a different matter.

i hope not
I made my donation today did everyone else???
i donate all the time.
and i don't think intel or amd will be eliminating overclocking any time soon.

If Intel and AMD did eliminate overclocking would Cyrix come back?

not a chance.
It wouldn't really hurt Intel that much if they implemented their anti-overclocking patented technology, but it would nevertheless be somewhat detrimental to their sales, so I doubt they'll eliminate the overclockability of their chips anytime soon.

I would sooner put my money on Sun or IBM than Cyrix

who is cyrix do the make chips??
cyrix was purchased by Via and its cpu tech lives on through them.
