I don't understand why I can't go past 700 with my athlon 600. I have a freespeed gfd, and I upped the voltage to 1.75, but it won't boot up, it gets stuck on the start up screen where it id's all the hardware and freezes. Help me please, I want to go faster.

We need some more info. What are your temps, how du u cool your CPU, and how did u overclock?

I have a standard heat sink w/fan on the cpu, I have 2 intake and 1 exhaust fan. I have a 250W psu. I'm using ninjamicro GFD. I have 320Mb RAM. The mobo is a spacewalker AI61. The fsb is at 100mhz and I don't want to push that. Award Bios:AI61s019 HDD:13Gig WD@5400rpm. Video:Voodoo5 5500 (I'm sorry they're gone) w/Creative DVD 12x and DRX3 Encore.

Have u tried to give it some more volt's? Just keep an eye on the temps, NOT over 60 C, and best under 50C

I've gone as high as 1.9v, I think that it might be the psu, but I'm not sure

One way to help see if it's the PSU is to unhook some things (floppy, DR-ROM, some fans, etc.) and see if the remaining fans speed up. If so, you definately need a better PSU.

It must be, what do I say, it IS your L2 cache that cannot cope with the speed, usually somewere near or past 700MHz. Increasing voltage isn't going to increase your odds on a higher oc'ed system. Go to http://www.amdzone.com/files.cfm and download mathlon. It's a app. to start your computer with a lower L2 cache multiplyer. Standard multiplyer = 1/2 x clockspeed, at 700mhz, that's 350. You can decrease your L2 cache multiplyer to 2/5 or 1/3, to decrease the great stress on your L2 chips. Bet you can make 750 easily. Have you noticed mine yet?? =>

Read carefully how to use mathlon. Disable L2 in the bios and use the startup disk. That's the easiest and safest way to decrease L2 speed. Good point of mathlon is that it decreases L2 speed before windows starts, so you have no booting problems. When windows starts, your L2 gets stressed and the systems hangs somewhere early in the windows boot.
Succes, you can mail me if you have more questions of course.

You know, someone with exactly the same problem posted in 'amd k7 550 slot A @ 700+'. Just a tip.
