I have tried 3 times to close the L1 bridges with no success. I have an Abit KT7A-Raid and a Duron 700.
Each time I cleaned off the lead and was very careful not to go over onto the next bridge.I went over each bridge at least 20 times so that there was a good covering of lead on them. I used an HB pencil and an old mechanical pencil with an unknown lead, I only used a rubber to clean off the old lead.

The pc posts properly but will not accept any multiplier change, it always states 7 x 100 at the beginning. There was no problem with increasing the FSB ( I managed 840mhz). The mobo uses SOFTBIOS III to change the multiplier.

You could try to kick up the voltage to see if that helps, else I guess you have to use silver pen or the defogger stuff

If your mobo has no manual dip switches to set bus speed, multiplier, and Vcore voltage, get a new mobo that does. Software settings do not work reliably!!!

Dont worry you got THE overclocking board, with all the goodies you need.

What is a defogger kit, and have you heard of anyone else having problems with the pencil method? It seems that every one else has 100% success rate.

I had to do the bridges about 5 or 6 times to get it to work, so don't give up just yet. Here's a piece of advice I give to everyone, because when I join the bridges it never works unless I do this: run the blade of a sharp knife (like a craft knife) between the lines you have drawn, to remove eny excess graphite that might be causing the bridges to short across each other. I can try as many times as I like to unlock the cpu, but unless I do this it invariably never works - try it and see whether it helps at all.

Oh yeah about the defogger stuff - it's a sort of conduvtive paint used to repair the rear window defoggers on cars - you know how they have those wires on the glass as heating elements, well I guess it's used to repair those when they get scratched off.

don't worry what netbanshee said about gettin a new MoBo. You've got one of the best boards for overclocking on. Stick with the KT7-RAID!

Thx all. I have finally managed to unlock the multiplier, but have only managed to get to 840mhz (7.5 x 112 +1.6v). The case is open on both sides and the temp reaches around 44c when playing CS.I was able to get to 840 using the locked chip and increasing the FSB. With ne increase above these levels I would get error messages, registry problems, being asked for the system disk???,the system shutting down just as windoze ME is about 2 start, the WinME logo gets lines across it,if the system starts then it cannot do much and blue screen errors. I have only the basic cooling of a chipset fan and the cpu heatsink and fan and amusingly I have leant a room fan on its side and blow it into the case(ridiculously noisy but what can I do until I get better cooling!).

Can some1 give me some pointers as to the increase in voltage that is needed and can this damage the cpu? Also how to reach a higher speed.

The ps I have is from an old celeron system and is only 230w, could this be causing the shutdown b4 windows?I have read that AMDs need 300w.

Can I really damage the system by testing different speeds?Sometimes it will not post for many attempts and then when I try to enter the BIOS it does not appear.

Could a very efficient cooling system be recommended.

Sorry for all the questions but o/cing seems to be very interesting and this forum appears to be willing to help.

The rest of the system is:
Voodoo 3 3000 at 190mhz
Sound Blaster Value
Diamond Supaexpress
Maxtor 6 gig
Seagate 800meg(lol)-not used yet
Generic floppy
128meg generic pc100 (can this be tweaked or o/ced?)

Try increasing your voltage some and bumping your multiplier up.

That's a little warm esp. with the sides off. What HSF and thermal compound do you use?

The way you're set up at least, it seems that you've maxed out your FSB increases.

You can go a lot higher than 1.6v. Your BIOS max should be 1.8 or 1.85 and those are fine....just watch temp's because more voltage=more heat to bi dissipated.

The ps I have is from an old celeron system and is only 230w, could this be causing the shutdown b4 windows?I have read that AMDs need 300w.

That could be a problem for sure. 250W minimum and 300W if you have a lot of stuff plugged in.

Can I really damage the system by testing different speeds?Sometimes it will not post for many attempts and then when I try to enter the BIOS it does not appear.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS after a failed overclock?

Could a very efficient cooling system be recommended.

For air cooling Alpha makes good heat sinks. Beyond that, there are lots of water cooling experts on here.
