HI,

I am having problems with over clocking my K7. 550. Slot A

have a www.Madex.com (786004) over clocking module.

Have tried to O/C my CPU, System runs stable at 700MHz @ 1,70v but as soon as I try to go over 700MHZ @ 1,65 up to 1,80 v the sys boots up OK , shows new CPU speed but hangs after the Verifying DMI pool Data message / or the Win ME screen appears but the SYS doesn't get any further. would really like to get at least 850MHz !!! ( 100 FSB )
Any suggest ?

AOpen AK72 MB / 256MB PC 133 / Voodoo 4500 / Maxtor 20,4GB ATA 100 / Abit Hotrod ATA 100 Controller / Sound-OnBoard / Win ME / 1GHz twin Fan cooler / Compex 10/100 netcard / MS FFB Lenkrad USB

Thanks.

Sounds like you have hit the cache limit on your K7. You will need to lower the cache multiplier to get it above 700Mhz. There are a few ways to do this, solder the resistors on the PCB, get a goldenfinger device that allows for chche multiplier changes or get a utility that will change the multiplier in software - H Ogda (??) had one early last year. Cheers

Well, that's an easy one. Like Fink said, you've hit the L2 cache limit. Same problem like in the post '600@700 and no more', I've also replied overthere, see it on where to get the L2 cache utility. L2 cache at 1/2 clockspeed (is standard setting for your proc.) is stable until you hit 700MHz, after that, it fails in most of the cases. You can use Mathlon, a utility to lower the cache multiplyer before windows starts. It uses a startup floppy and is really good and relyable.

I've had quite some luck with my proc., I did 750 at 1.65V stable GORB cooling with 1/2 cache. 800MHz unstable, but made it possible with watercooling, 1.8V perfectly stable, handwarm. All 1/2 cache, you need to cool them too!!!! Won't doo 850, but will when I lower to 2/5 cache. Lower cache decreases system performance(a bit), I'm still doubting to do it permanently, now 800.

Let me know when you clock on with your one! Just drop personal message or something. Good luck!

And that will be to go watercooled. I'm now for exactly 6 days, and it's great! When I did 1.8V with the GORB it was damn hot, I've mounted my own inside/outside car thermocouple, and indicated the coolingplate hit 51°C sometimes with only 1.7V!!! Now at 1.8V I think the processor is about 30°C. I use a heater core (they perform GOOD) and my father made me a alu waterblock, real state of the art. I've read the review of the CoolComputers K7waterblock (on homepage, watercooling). It inspired me to replicate one, the design is real good!

I don't know what kind of cooler you use, but mind temps, they determine the lifespan of your sweet cpu! Ofcourse alpha's do well too, but I want to run my computer 24/7 and it's in the room where I live, so aircooling is no option.

And YESS, I've finally posted 100!

Hey Barolo,

I've noticed a little error in your homepage link on the forum, there is a point before the 'www', it should not be there. I like the site, especially the unreal tournament maps. I don't know if you are the one that runs the site, but if so could you please send me some more maps ;) ? You can send them to rob.edam@student.uva.nl , nl because I'm from holland, so hi neighbour. Succes

Thanks for the Hompage ( ww ) advice, i´ll look for a few more maps, and post the www , yes it is my HP but i am so inudated with work ( I run a PC Business as a hobby type thing , and its getting a little to big for me !!

watch the HP in the next few months, I will try to update it .

I know more people running a little computerbussines, and all of them are doing so fine, they think about expanding or quiting. Maybe my brother will take over one of this bussinisses, together with a friend, whose father is running it now. Seems the problem is quite uniform!

Good luck with the homepage, it rocks, maps cool!

Hey, you guys are great, given me a bit insparation to get my HP in order, we are currently running a GP3 Championship Season , ( 4 in 2x2 Hotseat modus ) I drive the Jaguar ( been British ) the others Ferrari,Jordan,Williams. So I shall try to post the results , we are now all practising for the Monaco GP.

The business is doing great, over here ( in Germany ) nearly every corner shop sells PC´s so the prices are rock bottom, but there are still enough people who want good service, and are not to worried about paying a few bucks more.

As for my AMD 550@700+ I have now got her running at 750MHz 2/5 L2 using Mathlon software. after about 4 Hrs GP3 ( which is why I OCed in the first place ) shes stable at 40°c , and running 1280x1024@about 80% CPU power.

Thanks for everybodys help, I have learnt alot about K7´s and OCing,

as as for the Smiley, well overhere in Köln ( Cologne ) its starting to be carnival season so i thought it was appropiate.

Paul.
