i would like to know too. I was about to get it but the online subscription fee sucks.

Think about it though $12 is like nearly £8 for me, thats nothing if you think about it, thats £2 a week or $3 a week....... surely you can manage that?

If the game is as good as the reviews say then it'll be worth paying for, plus you get the first month free, if you don't like it after that month, take it back!........

I'm gonna give it a go once i have the cash.... (just spent ££££ on second rig so am bit empty pocket styley) ......

Thats unless i hear anything terribly bad from some peeps here! :D

You got any input to add gtsimmo??? ;)

Ok, my entire clan is playing this game. I personally haven't played it, but I've gotten the jist of it from numerous clan meetings.

The biggest complaint is that the game is nothing like the latest version of the Demo that most of my clan had the oppertunity to play. Seems like they had the game packaged and shipped using old code to make the deadline. Nothing new in the game world.

So far things are slowly being fixed. 56k'ers can actually play as long as they stay off voice chat.

The biggest complaint is that it seems these guys are bored with it already. It's basically like paying $50 then $12 a month to play Quake because there really is not point in the game except to run around and take bases. This can be accomplished with BF1942 for about $29.95 now.

Sony says they are working on more stuff for the game, but I'm not opptomistic about it.

My advice.....this game is going to last 3 months, or 3 years. Wait the 3 months, see if they fix the netcode, cure the lag, fix the issues and see if it's worth $12 a month. This is exactly why I'm not playing it yet.

Yeah i had two guys leave my DoD (day of defeat) clan because they got into the beta testing of Planetside...well, guess what..?

They are now back in the clan, refusing to shell out for Planetside, and keep telling us all how bad the game is. Horribly repetitive, no real objective. Well so they say, if other people hear different then please share :D

my room mate has it, he was in closed beta, he has ties with sony, ive watched him play, its a lot of waiting around, tribes meets everquest is what i have heard, tho graphics are decent but gameplay is lacking in my opinion. my roomie is always playing it so i guess that counts for something we shall see, im not goin out to blow money on it quite yet, im still interested in asheron's call going on 4 years now

planetside is addictive. i beta tested it, and i own it now. It's alot of fun. Even if just for the 200 vs. 200 battles.

Welcome to the forums Infamous........ what makes the game fun?

I'm not getting good feedback here... :( , everyone is like "it sucks coz there's no objective" or "its really fun to play 200 vs 200" , lol .......

A detailed description of "how it sucks!" or "how it is totally cool" would be quite helpful if anyone would like to enlighten this thread with a mere explanation! :D

ok, heres my view. I was in beta. The game is very fun....for a limited amount of time. It would for sure be worth it to use the free month...and decide from there. The big thing is that you do the same thing over and over. Its all about getting bases to earn XP so you can learn certs to get more weapons. When you get you Battle Rating 20, which takes a month or so....theres nothing left to do except get bases. Is it worth 13 bucks a month? Thats what the free month is for ;)

Sounds like a waste of money to me.........

I got open beta, played for no more than 30 mintues. To me, it only takes that much time to determin if a game is good or bad, in most cases. There are a few exceptions, such as games with different learning curves. In my opinion, dont shell out 50 to try it for a month, unless your not tight on the money.

30 mins, lol...........if i had'nt gone back to some games that i hated when i first played them, i would have missed out on some good un's............

30 mins aint enough to determine a good or bad game!.... with the exception of a small few which can be classed as "crap" within moments.........

I totally disagree. You can tell if a game is good or not in 30 minutes.

I mean think about it, you spend months reading up and anticipating for a game to release. You read everything you can on it. You see screenshots and videos. You spend half an hour just setting the game up so you can play it. Install, kep maps, video, audio tuning. You know what the game looks like already, you know what the point of the game is already, but you haven't experienced it yet.

And if that experience isn't good in the first 30 minutes of that game you sour to it immediately. Is it an accurate opinion? No. It's totally biased, but it's your money and your experience, so you can have that opinion if you like.

I said to myself when I first played half-life that this was a cool game that would be around for a while. People STILL play that game. Red Faction was one I uninstalled in under 30 minutes of game play.

planetside is fun as hell and very adictive, the main downside is it suffers from SoE's ****y 3D engine, while SoE seems to make good games their 3D engines are horible, I can run basicaly any other games at 1280x1024 with all details set to max and still run nice and smooth, but even going down to 1024x728 with all detail at low planetside makes my system look like i'm running on a pentium 500 with a 8mb video card if i'm near a really heavy combat area :(

It's good, but I didn't think it was worth the monthly fee. I can understand that it's all on their servers, and that it takes some good equipment to be able to handle thousands of players at once, etc... but I can play other games that are just as good, if not better, and don't have a monthly fee. After the beta ended, so did my playing ;)

it's fun, but too repetitive... if they'd lower the sub fee it would possibly be worth it. either way, i'd wait a few months.

I also played the beta.. and lagged like hell cus im in the uk..

However thje game is quality, but it seems only if you are playing as a team.. this is how the game was designed to be played.

Everytime you log on the "world" has changed and the war rages on...

This is not just a game but a community...

There are improvements to be made.. but isnt there in every game?

So what sort of scale of people are still playing it?.... enough people to make it fun........

Has anyone got together and done something about the sub charge, maybe a mass petition to drop sub charges would help, if anyone would be willing to organize, game companys don't just drop charges....... they have to hear what people think before they take action..... :D ....

Just try the game for yourself not everyone is going to like every game out there. I play this game and am in DROW outfit TR empire. There are plenty of people playing this game condsidering EB had 25,000 pre orders for the game. I got the game the day it released and played beta also. Yes it does have a slight repetitive nature but if you like huge battles and taking over continents then you will like the game. Lets not forget this game is only a little over a week old now and with the future plans from SOE the game should get even better. Below is a link for a future ship thats planned to be put into the game along with some other ships and vehicles sony is working on.

By all means yes. But I expect improvements to be made in a more timely fashion with a pay to play game than a normal game and that doesn't seem to be happening.

Sony only cares about one thing. Return On Investment. One would think that in order to gain that you have to keep people paying, and to keep them paying you must keep them happy, and to keep them happy things must work. And I just don't see that happening.

Everyone says that the game was put out using older code from a previous beta. They say this because the old scoring system was used, the problems that exist in the shelf version were not happening in the latest beta, but in previous betas. That brings me to the conclusion that the latest beta code could easily serve as the first patch, but that hasn't happened.

3 months or 3 years. My vote is 3 months.

I beta tested for that game, oher than the fact that my main rig was busted most of the beta so i had to use an under spec pc to run the game (caused a ted of system lag) i loved the game to death. Now paying so much a month is another thing.....

I play Planetside alot and I can tell you why it's worth dealing wiht the learning curve and the monthly fee. It's definetly the most social shooter out there, you have to get in a squad at your sanctuary to ahve any real fun, which can be seen as good or bad. You guys complain that it has no real objective, or is too repetitive. the objectives are player defined, that is the beauty of this game. A higher rank player will get together with others and determine where to stage an attack. This is where the real fun is, the teamwork. Attacks can be coordinated with over 200 players, land, air, and pretty much all other ways. Intense firefights rage through the bases as the opposing side works together to try and hold the base. If you win or lose, it's still alot of fun. You really feel like youre part of the bigger picture. Thanks to the certifications, you have to specialise your abilities in order to help your squad or outfit the most. It really is a great expierience.
