There seem to be something going on with this trick. Suddenly this forum is flodded (in a positive sence) with ppl having multiplier adjusting problems. This was not the case before crismas.
Our responce is always the same, USE CONDUCTICE PEN or indees any other permanent methods to do the bridges. Upping the voltage might help.
There is unlocking and there is unlocking...some ppl seem to be able to use only limited number of multipliers after the pencil trick. Like 8-8,5-but not 9 for example. (see also coverage here on the main page)
I actually dont know how many ppl this has helped at all (using our advice). Personally I have unlocked few AMD's with whatever pencil I had in my pocket at that time.
I am just checking, how many of us have actually got better results with conductive pen, and are there still some cpu's/mobo's that don't benefit from this trick at all.
it seems to me that there are always' people having trouble with the pencil trick maybe theres just a lot more people doing it so that it just seems that way I bought the conductive pen and unlocked my chip 1 time and it has survived countless application's of thermal goop and hsfs my opinion use the pen ;D

Unless you have a really well-stocked electronics store locally, probably not. Try http://www.alliedelec.com search for CW2200-MTP, which is a Chemtronics microtip conductive pen
At Kat's suggestion I used the rear defroster repair kit from a local auto parts store. Cost $10 has worked first time each of the 3 boards I've applied it to. Apply a strip across all leads (L1) and then scratch a path between them with a needle. The path is absolutely required.

Well..i just bought a normal 0.5 pencil... worked like a dream.....thats 4 months ago now, maybe pencils arnt produced the same way anymore....
the one i have was one i found at a normal books store and it costed me 4$
running my duron700@850 without any special cooling... cant wait until my water cooling and new case is done...... gonna take that 700 up to 1000 or above :p (i hope)
by the way..iwould recomend using about 30 secs or more on each mulitplier...... [img="http://xadhoom.hypermart.net/oc/duron.jpg"]

Whats the best way to apply the Rear Defrost Repair kit stuff? I was thinking of using tape (electrical, scotch, masking, whatever...) to isolate each of the four connections and then using a toothpick to connect them. The only problem with that is having to wait for each to dry before doing the next... and I'm really impatient... :) I'd rather not just goop it on and then scratch it off in between them...
As small as the bridges are, I don't think a toothpick will be thin enough. Try a needle or pin, and practice before you try it for real.
most people have pencils at home. i've had great success with the pencil. i think peeps should actually try it first, and then go buy a $10 defroster-repair kit if it doesn't work..
