View Full Version : clocking duron 800 on a asus a7v board
Hi, I know from the amd ratings on this homepage, that near or at 1 gig is attainable with low risk. My question is;
Do I need to short out any leads to unlock this thing, or do I just make sure the jumperfree settings are set so I can do it on the screen and slowly move up the multiplier?

You need to remake the broken L1 connections on the chip ceramic - the so-called 'pencil trick'. Here's a guide explaining how to do it: http://www.athlonoc.com/unlocking.htm
Here's a Tom's Hardware article with some much better pictures - ignore all the bits about setting the multiplier, you only need to connect the L1 bridges, as your mobo allows multiplier adjustments: http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html
It'll probably take a good few goes to get it right - took me 5 or 6 tries before it worked. Try using a craft knife to remove any graphite between the bridges, to stop them shorting across each other.
