uhm i was cleaning up my classroom when i found an old k6-2 400 lying around...
it was like....the biggest rush ever.... found a motherboard and a standard heatsink with fan. and clocked it to 500.. but i wanna go higher...the only problem is that im not able to check the cpu temp. in bios....how shall i do it then... i dont wanna frie the cpu....
I asked this same question last week someone suggested sisoft sandra or the bios might show temps neither worked for me.

well you have a couple of options ....
first of all you need to go to your local radio shack or lowes etc ... and purchase an indoor/outdoor thermometer (should run you in the neighborhood of us15.00) ... the indoor portion is pretty much useless but the outdoor probe has a thermoresister that if you pull from the plastic and adhesive you can place
1) inbetween your cpu and your heatsink
or
2) thread inbetween the pins on your cpu and place underneath your cpu (hint crush the wires of the thermoresisteror where it run underneath your cpu)
either option means that you must be patient and careful when you set up your cpu and heatsink ... but it will in the end give you a reading independent of software and/or bios
hope this helps
'do or do not there is no try'
duron 700 @ 980 ktv raid
k62 550 @ 700 and way unstable
4 x p133 @ 166
you need to purchase a digital thermometer with pins for placing in various parts of your machine such as cpu, chipset and ram.
as for going higher, 560mhz @112mhz bus with sdram at 2.3v later rev, or 2.5v earlier rev is the max of it without going to water cooling, you'll probably want to sand and polish the slug for a bit extra cooling.
cheers.
