View Full Version : WILL SOMEONE TELL ME A GAME THAT WILL TEST MY SYSTEM???
I don't have the fastest system around by anymeans but I have been overclocking for years and I finally found with this system there is no point overclocking. I have a duran 700@1050 and a geforce2. I have 256 pc 11 and after running almost every game at the highest res possible I turned byack my durna to 700. Will someone please tell me a game that can use this extra processor speed???
Hi,
The point of having a very Fast system is to increase your playing enjoyment, that is, not to have to wait while data loads from the HDD, or while the Screen reloads after a pan and scan ( Aof E ) or get blasted whilst your PC updates UT ( network ) and the other players are way ahead, even with UT try doing a 360° and blasting your opponent with a PIII 450MHz 32MB G-Force 2 , whilst he is running a Athlon 900Mhz V4 4500, he will get you !!
The faster the Sys. the easier it is to play, the less time you have to wait, and the more fun you get out of it etc !!!
If you really want to blow your Sys then enroll your PC as a test PC at some UNi so they can do some complex Calcs on it, Quantum Phys and all that.
otherwise be happy youve got such a PC, and wait for Unreal warrior / GP4 / DNem forever etc to arrive. otherwise IŽll glady send you my address so that you can send me your PC as your obivously bored with it .

if you want a game to test your sys. deud ex. grab the gforce tweeking untillity, max your card. go the max in all in game settings. that will stress your puter. I got an amd 800@950 and the 64 mg prophet gts/pro, and 192 of 133 ram and it makes my puter grunt!!

3DMark2000 is a great tool to test video cards, and provides benchmarks but benchmarks don't necessarily emulate real world performance. It is a good indicator though...just as any benchmark is :)

Ocing your processor won't generally help much in games - just look at how 3dmark scores change - only by about 100 for every extra 100MHz cpu speed on my system (duron 600@1000, GeForce DDR @ 140/330, 5750 3dmarks). Usually the graphics card is the bottleneck in the system, not the processor, so you want to oc your graphics card to see real gains. Going from stock (125/300) to 140/330 gets me an extra 400-500 points :-)

As far as i'm told, UT is CPU dependant more than Vid card... so you should be able to tell the difference on this game at least...
to test an OC'ed system, try Unreal Tournament also. I usually set mine to a CTF map (CTF Facing Worlds my favorite)... play as a spectator, set up about 12 bots on Godlike skill level and 999 flag limit.... it'll run forever and if i didnt get any lockups, my processor passes... well, at least this is how i test mine...

thats it 140/330? I got the VIce III (I think) from www.millisec.com and some radio shack heatsinks, thermal epoxied them all onto my DDR GeForce and got to 150/350 no problem. I haven't tried going any higher with the core yet since the built in tweak sw doesn't go any higher. I'll probably try the memory at 355 though and I may get around to d/ling powerstrip again one of these days...
BTW if you have some extra time on your hands, could you check out my AGP 4X post that Dan moved to general hardware? Thanks
Sorry guys I guess I should have been more specific when I started. Thanx for all the posts already though. Problem one my monitor only goes up to 1024x768 problem two I only have 56k access so multiplayer first person shooters are out of the question. Quake 3 and ut run at something stupid like 140fps+ and even in 32bit all vis maxed at 1024x768 I can still get perfectly playable framerates. Thanx again guys so I'll find a demo of Dues ex!! and check it out
I can't find a demo of deus ex. Does anyone know a site that has this demo or a demo that is more demanding? Sorry but I refuse to buy anyting until I tested it. If I do find a game that has great visual effects and is very playable I will purchase it.

http://www.eidosinteractive.co.uk/downloads/search.html?gmid=50 - 143Mb though, probably'll take a while to download. See if you know anyone with the demo on a coverdisc from a PC games magazine or something. It's a great game, I love it :-)

Go get counterstrike, Q3, or 3dsmax(app), or some **** like that
If you're looking for a quick game to test your graphics card Unreal Tournament will be one of the top 5 to run, but if you want a graphic intensive game that even surpasses Unreal (Just by a small Margin) check out "Alice"
http://ww.alice.ea.com/main.html (http://www.alice.ea.com/main.html)
It's my understanding from those with the GeForce 2 that Alice even skips on a frame or two. Check it out, it's a hot game.... but VERY morbid.
