Check an auto wrecker first... I got 2 chevette cores for $26 cdn. both in great working condition.
 
Yeah, heatercores work best for water systems. They have more space in them, so water spends more time in the radiator, and thus cools more. And while there may be a bit less surface area, it is more than sufficient to do the job. The extra fins on many radiators are frivolous, and only restrict airflow.
 
Local junkyards are a good place to get one if you are on a budget, I got heater core for 10.00 and polished her up with my dremmel and she looks brandnew.
 
chevette is good....buy 89 camero is bigger and better...but it's hard to get in a case, i managed though :D
