Okay, I managed to screw up my A7N8X over the weekend..

I am looking to replace it but am wondering if I should look at a KT400A board or stick with a NF2 board... reading up a bit yesterday I see that the most recent Gigabyte KT400A retail board, despite being a fairly new chipset was quite close to the NF2 in overall performance..

For NF2 I'm considering the Abit NF7.. I don't care for any extras like SATA or Audio (have a 5.1)

For KT400A the Gigabyte 7VAXP-A so far...

Any advice on these or other comparable boards? I am wondering if I should go with another NF2 board.. I wasn't too happy with the Asus board so I am leary.. I have seen both good and bad comments on the Abit NF7(S) boards..

I am looking to overclock and I know the NF7 is a great overclocker so that has some weight...

Stick with the nForce 2. There's really no advantage that the KT400A has, and anyways, the nForce 2 line is more mature

I would have to agree , i have heard nothing but good things about nforce 2 , personally I'm going to be buying one myself in the next few days , you might have a look in the mainboards section for advice in which one to choose though

Well, Assus is pretty good.
Nforce 2 is good, and slightly outperforms kt400A

KT600 is coming out, and it outperforms both of them.
Nforce3 is just around the corner.

Nforce 2 has had some issues with not always working with corsair XMS sticks not sold for dual systems. It also has had a few reports of bios's failing to save changes unless you replace the battery on the motherboard.
I'm sure KT400A has had some problems, but I don't know what they are.

Another vote for the Nvidia nForce 2 motherboards...Everything I have read likes the nForce 2 versus the VIA KT400A...Not many people use them but I really like the Soltek nForce 2 motherboard...Out of all the nForce 2 box's I have built they have been the only ones "without" issues...Put em together and let er rip tater chip...:D

Just go with the one of the two that has the features and goodies you want at a low price. It's really not going to make too much of a difference.

nf2 outperforms the kt400 in most tests

go with the nForce2. It has a AGP/PCI lock, so you will be able to crank up the FSB on a nForce2 mobo much easier than on a KT400. Plus the nForce2 performs better.
The Abit is a great board, you will be happy with it.
