Okay guys,

I'm on a mission to clock my 2600 tbred with my GA 7VAXP-Ultra mobo, but I'm having some issues.

My first steps are to look at the clock multiplier, which I have set at 13x at the mo (it's a 333 FSB default 12.5x) and all is well, with the POST reporting the chip as a 2700. This is stable, and runs at about 42C.

If i set the multiplier to 13.5x, post says it's a 2800+ and it sometimes starts up into windows fine. However, random lengths of time into having started up, the PC will just reboot (the power goes off and it restarts).

With 14x, windows wont boot, with messages coming up saying the disks cannot be found.

I don't think it is an overheating problem, as the pc reboots at 13.5x if i start it from cold (ie after it's been off for 12 hours). Is it possible it's a problem with my PSU? I'm running a 300W PSU, but my specs include a geforce4 with 2 fans, a DVD, CDRW, two hard disks, and a bunch of USB stuff (wireless gamepads etc).

If it is the PSU can anyone recommend a good new one, preferably that doesn't sound like a squadron of B52s at lift-off

Cheers

Ady

what sets of multipliers do you get access to?

Your PSU does look like it should be replaced. I'd recommend Antec, Sparkle, Forton, enermax. That's all I can think of now

I have access to all multipliers, AFAIK.
When set to auto multilpier on the mobo jumpers it chose 11x for some stupid reason, so when i set it manually i tested 9x to 14x and all seemed to work fine.

Download a program that will monitor the voltage of your +5 and +12 volt supplies. Find the highest speed that will boot into windows and watch the values of those two voltages while you load the cpu with prime95, 3dmark, sandra drive benchmark, etc simultaenously. If you see large fluctuations, or worse, system crashes or reboots, then very likely the psu.
Motherboard Monitor 5 is good one to view the voltages.

cheers man. pretty sure it is the PSU as the pc just rebooted last night while playing vietcong with the cpu only marginally overclocked (100MHz OC).

my 5 volt is running at 4.7 may this mean a problem for further overclocking

Last night I lowered the vcore to 1.75V and now my +5V line is reading 4.7xV too. When I was running the vcore at 1.80V, the +5V line was never below 4.9xV. Go figure. At least it's stable.
