View Full Version : Windows Protection Error

I'm new to O/C. I've been running my TB900 (A7V) at 1010 for a little while and it has been fine (10X 101) with voltage bumped to 1.80 from default 1.75. But when I went to 10X and 103FSB I got a Windows Protection Error and just backed it back down to 101.

What to do next? Temp is 52C under some load and I'm working on getting it lower.

Do I raise voltage?. Lower voltage? Raise multiplier? Dip in dry ice? Re-pencil or perhaps defroster repair kit?

I guess I just play around and see what happens. But I'll slip in a spare 2gig drive rather than risk screwing up my important data.

First off, the temp is a little high compared to what most other people report. I would aim for getting it down to the mid- or low- 40s, at least. After that, up the voltage some more and see if the protection error goes away.
Re-penciling the bridges shouldn't make a difference. The error is telling you that the processor reached that speed, it's just not stable enough at it. Dropping the temp and raising the voltage may be all that you need to do to fix this.

what type of memory are you using ;D

the temp. issue is one I can't figure out. my mom has a tbird 700@1050 on a a7v. temp under load is 57-60 and her puter is more stable than my tbird 800@900 temp.51-53.
doesn't make sence to me

Yeah, it seems to vary quite a bit from chip to chip. My tbird won't go above 58C before crashing, but I've heard of guys running at 65C+ (not a good idea mind). Go figure.

Could your instability be due to anything else, like oc'ed fsb, driver conflicts, crap mem, or just windows being windows? :-)

Micron Cas2 133, 2*128.

I've got some of that Micron RAM, and I'm less than pleased with it. It does tend to be a bit unstable, as of yet I have had no sucess running it faster than 133Mhz, and I think that it is providing my limit of 892Mhz(POST only, no Windows). I;ve tried two different processors, and they both top out at the same point. Since I'm unwilling to cough up the dough for another 384megs of RAM right now, I'm going to live with it for a while.

should be able to eliminate the memory as the problem hehe

the temps really should come down before you push any further

a couple of days ago I removed my hsf cleaned the chip and reapply the goop after restarting my pc within five minutes it froze restarted and it froze again knowing the only thing that I did that could affect my pc was cleaning the chip so I redid the bridges and every thing was back to normal
