well, the last component I need for my newest system is a video card; my specs are as follows:

xp 2200, asus a7v333, 512mb pc2700, 400w PSU, etc. etc.

mostly i'm going to use this machine for web design & some gaming (simple stuff like HL, some ghost recon, etc) but I do not need to have the eye candy maxed out or anything, and my budget is around $75 +/-...

I really want a 128mb card though, and it must have dual monitor capability, even if one output is DVI (soooo much easier for design).

So I've been looking at the FX 5200, the radeon 8500 (128mb) and the radeon 9100 (128)...What would you recommend? is there another card in that price range w/ similar specs that I am missing? any advice would be appreciated, as I don't keep up on video card technology like I used to.

The 8500 or the 9100. Which ever has the highest clock/ram speeds as they are the same card, with the exception core/mem speeds vary.

i agree, 9100, the 8500LEs at newegg seem to come at low clocks like 250/200, the 9100 is at least 250/230 i think

Unfortunately ht eFX5200 is a step down from the 8500 :(. So that leaves you with the 8500 or 9100. Those are the best 128mb cards available in that price range.

I fouy were able to pay 120$ you could get a 4200 128mb

yeah there were several 4200's in the classifieds for some unbelievable prices but most were either sold or didn't have dual output (as far as i could tell)...
