uhmmm.. is anyone else confused? is it a celeron or a k6-2? I'm not familiar with HP computers, but I don't imagine the motherboard it came with will have an ways to overclock (jumpers/switches/bios).

ok ok i have been to two message boards and have heard the same response both times thanks for rubbing in the fact that i am learning but please feel free to stab me in the neck again :) no really i was unaware that it was either a celeron or amd k6 2
i went to the hp page and i must have mixed the info it is a celeron 433 prebuilt piece of junk from HP. see i learned something already. If you have any info or know someone that does please send them my way Thanks

pull the heatsink off your cpu ... and boom there it is ... on the top of your cpu you will find markings to indicate which cpu you are dealing with

do or do not there is no try

if its a celeron it shouldn't have a black cover (I don't think...) so just look on the back of the processor and it should say intel in the top left corner and celeron in the top right. As far as overclocking... check the bios for any cpu setting you can change, check the motherboard for any switches or jumpers and find out what they do in the manual or on the net.

Like I said before, I don't think OEMs like HP build systems with overclocking in mind, so I'd doubt that your motherboard will allow it. My old Dell had a single jumper on the motherboard that would put the computer in 'maintenance' mode and then you could switch the cpu speed from 233 to 266 to 300, it did not give any more information/choices than that. I tried it, but of course it didn't work... Good luck
