...I used to be a Nvidia man however the difference in performance both Visual and speed with ATI is phenomenal!!!
Come on Nvidia show us what you can do lets get that 256bit Memory bus!
Cheers RichieR
Socket eh?

Don't hold your breath..... They keep looking for shortcuts.
The Fx5900 has a 256mem bus, and it's fast, but not earth shattering. Oh, and it's FP16.

They need to redo their aa and af as the imaige quality is poor and performance hit is bad - all benchmarks should use it as standard now...

I think Nvidia have done more than enough for this year *ahem*
I just hope they chill out and start being a bit more sensible with future releases

They are actually fixing AF with a new driver release, as for AA I haven't seen web sites compare it recently for some odd reason.

Do you mean it's floating point precision is only 16bits per channel? DX9 calls for a minimum of 24bits per channel, if the 5900 only uses 16 bits it can't be called a DX9 part. AFAIK it is capable of using 8, 16 or 32 bits per channel, just as the 5800 was (that's 32bit, 64bit and 128bit respectivly).

You have it right Daddy. I think he's just reffering to the fact that when the NV3X uses the FP32 path, it's too slow to be used in a game....

That is what I meant.

So did the 3DFx guys leave Nvidia for ATI...:)

Well, if you wanna be technical, some went from 3Dfx to nVidia, and some to ATi...and lately some have gone from nVidia, to ATi (like the driver manager from nVidia left for ATi back when the 9700 Pro came out)

why "leave" or "join".. I just buy whatever has best price/performance when I need to upgrade my video card..
when I upgraded last it was a ti-4200 .. if I'd upgrade today.. it would be an ATi card.. and I'm glad their keeping up the competition.. for us that means.. faster cards and lower prices.

I guess ATI must have poached 3DFx's aa and af engineers because their image technology uses a similar algorithm which is much closer to 3DFx's famous technology! As we know from the benchmarks NVIDIA cannot compete here as when switched on performance is much less effected however offers much better image quality...

In ways 3dfx was ahead of their time, too bad it wasn't in important ways that might have say....SOLD VIDEO CARDS!
I'm going to go cry:(
*why 3dfx, why!*

Good old 3Dfx... design, design,design... hey who said we had to sell anything we're designers.
80% of that company was designers the other 20% were research... Made some awesome products for the time...

more like did nvidia turn into the company they dug up from the ruins...im a die-hard nvidia fan, but f-ck man...they have totally screwed themselves over. i have the gforce 4 ti 4600, i refer to it as the voodoo 6. its massive, hot, and loud. either way it does enough texturing so that it looks good without as or aa to me. if nvidia doesnt make another card soon to compete with the dropping prices and rising performance of that ati cards (which are insane may i add) they are screwed. but if they hustle up and dont make anything for, well lets say december and make only that thing for december...well they are still screwed. ati may have sucked before, but they must have been planning this massive all at once(all at once being quick power that is cheap and lowering by the month) as stronger ones come out to take the expensive ones places, completely dominating the market. either way...i think we all need to swallow our pride and do as we did with 3dfx, sniffle and say goodbye(at least to the video card lines...the nforce 2 and 3 will keep that company alive for years).
i have a 3dfx banner i bought for 20 bucks...its like plastic and its up on my wall.

have you guys checked out the benchies on doom3 at tomshardware? the nvidia cards beat the ati cards by a pretty good amount. i know its toms and i know he is retarded, but its worth a look. im thinking that next gen games are gonna run great on nvidia cards. have to wait and see i guess.

I'm sure they will run just fine however as soon as you switch on NVIDIA’s processor hungry aa and af you'll soon start to lose frame rates...:(
However, I guess it’s only a matter of time before they optimise the firmware...
rofl. yah i love that banner. bought it at a comp usa for 20 dollars. it was covering the front side of a metal shelf with broken parts on it behind a counter and when i saw it...i needed it... rofl so no, sorry. its not for sale.
