Hey guys, I just got my A7V and Duron 600 in and am anxious to get started. The only problem is that I don't have any Artic Silver yet, and don't know how critical it is to use exactly that kind. I don't plan on pushing over 900 mhz for a while, so will this offbrand thermal paste work for now?

Thanks,
Lance

the thermal paste that came with your heatsink will work fine for now... i know how it is to be anxious; but it was a good idea asking. just remember to keep an eye on your temps... the stuff you do have right now does not transfer heat as well as name brand.

What you have will work. Arctic Silver will get your temp's a little lower. Have fun!!!

Slow down there. Your heatsink has microscopic variations in the surface. The first grease you apply will stay in these tiny surface imperfections. This is what it’s supposed to do. Trying to clean your old grease out with alcohol and a Qtip would be like trying to clean a waffle iron with a two inch diameter rope. The only way you will get the old grease out is to lap the surface with ultra fine emery paper. For this reason, you should never touch the bottom of your heatsink. The oils from your skin will contaminate the surface and cut down it’s ability to transfer heat. Bottom line, if you are going to use Artic Silver and want the best results, don’t use another compound first.
