Dear Rob Cork and everyone...
I HAVE NO MONEY LEFT!!!
Which one of those processors is cheap and can easily go to 1000MHz?
Duron 700MHz 83 Euro
Duron 750MHz 97 Euro
Duron 800MHz 118 Euro
Duron 850MHz 147 Euro
The rest of the system is:
Motherboard: Gigabyte (i do not know which model)
Memory: 256mb 133MHz
Hard Disk:30 gb ata 100
Graphics Card: Ati aiw radeon 32mb ddr
Sound Card: creative platinum 5.1
Dvd Pioneer 6x

I think it greatly depends on wether you do the voltage mod. or not. Standard voltage will get you up about 150MHz, but depends on which kind of proc. you have. The lower rated ones overclock better. b.t.w. good cooling can make a difference, so purchase yourself a good (silent) cooler too. You won't regred it!! Will fit fine in the gr8 setup you have :)
Seems like 700 is one of the most cost-effective CPU's with a good chance to reach the gig when you do voltage mod. If you don't, reaching the gig will be questionable. Better check CPU-database.
Hey Rob C., you've made your promotion on this subject. What would be your vision on this one?
Enjoy overclocking, don't buy pretested CPU's (r)

Ummm....
from what I hear about all Durons have about an equal chance of doing a Gig regardless of rated speed. I built 3 Duron 700 systems this weekend (including my own) and the 2 that I overclocked were both on FIC AZ11E mobo's and both did 850 with chrome orbs and zero voltage increase. in my opinion the 700 is the most cost effective CPU right now, and looking at the OC dbase, they all go to about the same speed.
Also, if your mobo is the Gigabyte 7ZX you aren't able to do any multiplier overclocking. I am not sure if that is the one you have but I have built a system with that mobo and looked for any provision to change multiplier but there isn't.

PS All Duron 700 CPU's for the systems I built were week 102 Malay durons, with blue cores.
