View Full Version : WTF? Cant unlock my 1 ghz T-bird!
I have tried 4 times now. 2 times with a #2 HB pencil, and twice with a rear defogger kit.
I am running the Asus A7V Kt 133 MB.
I change the 6 switches to different multiplyers, and nothing............still stays at 10, the funny thing is, The switches were all in the off position since it was new which in the manual says 11 multiplyer, 11x100 should be 1100 mhz, but it must be set to a multilyer of ten cause at 100 FSB it shows 1000 mhz.
I have tried 9, 9.5, 11 ,11.5................nothing changes my Mhz.
Am I doing soemthing else wrong here????
The switches do nothing to the multiplyer!
Could I have one that cannot be unlocked??
I will say that the core on my T-bird is pinkish/red, not green or blue, like everyone talks about
I would appreciate some input!
Eric
Have you looked at the bridges with a high power loop after you tried to connect them? It took me three trys with a pencil to get it right.
Hav eyou set the jumper for "jumper mode"? Pins 1-2. Page 18 in the manual

Think I might see the problem here - the manual is confusing, the 'on' position is with the raise end of the switch set to the side of the dipswitch block nearest the pci slots, 'off' is nearest the cpu end of the mobo. So when you say they are all off, you are right - but the setting shown in the manual for 11x is all set to 'on' - in which case you are setting 'on' to 'off' and vice versa. As switches 5 and 6 must always be set to 'on' when changing the multiplier, you could be setting them to off thinking it's on - that would explain why nothing is working. Try reversing all the switches, see what happens. Sorry if this sounds patronising, but I can't think of anything else that could explain your problem, and I can't bear to think about AMD truly locking the chips :-)

I feel dizzy after reading that last post
I will look at them again, but Frank, I was under the understanding that you could still be in Jumperfree mode, and change the multiplyer switches???
Colin..I am not familiar with a high power loop, I assume you mean a magnifying glass or something of the sort.
I will try that too
Thanks for the help
Rob is there any way to explain your point a little easier about the the switch orientation? I was getting a little dizzy myself :)

WAIT WAIT WAIT>>>>......................
just hold on, I figured out the problem I think. Rob you hit it right. Mostly right!
Get this ...I forgot that the switch was WHITE, in the diagrams in the manual, so you were right, where I thought they were all on.....they were actually all Off!!!!
My Lord.......lemme try this again. I will let you know how it goes.
I am glad that you were patronizing Rob. It has ALWAYS been the simple things that confuse me!!
Thanks

Hey that's alright - I only thought this might be the problem cause it confused me at first - it doesn't say in the manual which end of the switch in the diagrams is which. I had to try a few times before I got it right - easy mistake I guess! Glad it's sorted now :-)

With the A7V, I gave up on the pictures and just rear the text version, right below the images in the manual. It really helped my overclocking experiences, since the machine started booting again.
