Well, when I order my ram there is Generic and Branded with a £2 difference - I would always get the Branded cos I think these will probably overclock more. I'm not sure if the chrome orb will fit on a KT7A - but I can't be sure. Is that harddrive 7200 spin? You would not beleive how much a slow harddrive hits genreal performance - I go wit hthe fast IBM's every time.

Basically just echoing what Spode said - go for branded memory if you can, I got cheap PQI stuff and it's really holding me back. Can't affor to replace it though ;P
On the heatsink front though, stear clear of the whole orb series. Too few peopl like them compared to the number that find they give poor performance for me to recommend them. I don't think the PEP66 fits on the KT7 series without a thin fan, which lowers performance - I dunno about whether it fits the KT7a, but it's probably best to steer clear of it in case. Get the globalwin FOP38 if you don't mind the noise - if you do, fit a rheostat and turn it down a bit, shouldn't hit performance too much.
I don't know how much a fast hard drive affects performance - I've never had one >( But it can't be a bad thing...
LoL ...... :)
I knew u guys wouldn't let me down hehe ....
Yeah i had to dremel the Orb to get it to fit .... but as soon as i started to clock the chip i could see the orb wasn't coping too well :(
Foook me how big is the PeP66 ..... I've got a fair amount of headroom :) bout 12cm ?
Memory is going soon .... to sumone who wants to word process / accounts .... LOL .... hehe there ought to be a law against computer misuse :D Hopefully going for Crucial 133 ~ 222 ? or Kingston ?
Hdd is 5400 :( had to economise too much :(
At present i'm only pushing 1.75V ....... and running up to 48 degrees cpu temp on load ( 3dMark looping benchmark ) is this too high ?
Duron650@815 so far :( ?
Cheers doodz :D
Hmm ... the temp is creeping up .... 48 degrees .. :(
somebody shout if this is too high ? PLZ :)
i got around 50c with my duron600@1000 with a chrome orb. the orb is ok but if you want to o/c try something like the fop38 from globalwin, f***ing nice, a bit loud though.

I'd go for some Crucial cas2 mem - that ought to do nicely. I can sympathise about the hard drive too, mine's only 5400rpm :(
48C is perfectly safe, but it really should be cooler with 1.75V - to get a decent overclock you'll want to go to at least 1.85V - that's still a safe voltage, I did a volt mod to my A7V and I'm running 2.2V quite happily through my duron. With temps of 48C now though you'll have a hard time upping the voltage by much, so like everyone says, get a decent hsf like the ones suggested earlier.
