Press shift and choose Suspend from the shutdown dialogue box. The PC goes into "HYBERNATION" mode. Everything is turned-off. But when u restart the boot time is a lot less!

Yep thats true, but i've read in different places that hybernation is not good for hard drives. Something to ponder before you fall in love w/hybernate :)

I've heard that using the hibernate feature in XP uses up about 3GB of HDD space. Probably because it takes a "picture" of what you're doing, what programs are open, etc...and saves that "picture" so it can restore you to EXACTLY what was going on before you shut down/went into hibernation.

However, I'm not entirely sure about the 3GB thing. It might be less, might be more. I'm at skool right now, so I can't check it :(

It shouldn't take 3GB of HDD space... unless you have 3GB of RAM. :p

All it does is save an "image" of the RAM to the HDD and then shuts down. It'll usually be a tad bigger than however much RAM you have, for example, my laptop has exactly 48MB of RAM, but the hibernation image is about 50MB in size.

It's not any worse than saving things or doing other hard drive work.

It seems to suit my needs just fine, since my rig doesnt run 24/7 and I shut down 2 or 3 times a day. With hybernation I dont hafta log on, and it seems to become operatio0nal a tad quicker.

There should be a checkbox in your Control Panel/Power Options/Hibernate Tab
called "Enable Hibernate Support", and IIRC, there is another one in there that lets you add Hibernate to the shutdown menu.

Thanks for the tip - Although the enable hybernate option was there, I coulnt find another check box to add it to the shutdown menu. Then again my windows is in spanish, so its always a challenge to find things! (technical terms in spanish is kinda weird)
