View Full Version : Looking for a new sound card

Right now I have the onboard sound on my Epox 8K5A2+. It's 6 channel, so I thought I would be able to hook up 5.1 surround sound speakers, but it only has 3 holes. They are as follow: Speaker, Line_in, MIC. So I can't properly hook up my surround sound speakers (Logitech Z-640s). Selecting the option for 5.1 Surround sound speakers in my sound controls does nothing. The 'Line_in' hole seems to do absolutely nothing. So unless you guys know how to solve that problem, I'm gonna need a new sound card.

I am looking at the Soundblaster Audigy. That is just the card that had a reputation for being pretty good in my mind and meeting my budget. What are the differences between the different Audigies? There is the Gamer and the MP3+.

What other recommendable sound cards are as good as the Audigy, and about the same price or cheaper. I gotta get one soon because I can't stand getting 2/4(w/matrix) channel sound out of my 5.1 speakers.

Thanx in advance,

-YB

Did you go into media-mixer and un-mute the line in? Am assuming some form of windows?

Yea, the Line_in is not muted. There are 3 connecters that must be plugged in to get real 5.1 sound. I ordered an Audigy just a little ealier? Good choice or bad choice. I thought it was the best for what I was looking for. Basically, I was looking for something that could just fully support my Logitech Z-640 speakers, and not be a 'bottleneck' factor with my sound and allow them to operate to their full potential.
