View Full Version : Thunderbird Heatsink Question
I will be building my first "non-intel" computer tomorrow. Can anyone please let me know if the heatsink I will be getting with my 1100MHZ retail Thunderbird is worth using or should be pitched (they do call it heavy duty).
Also, the Global Win FOP 38 is called loud... relative to what? I have read that my current Global Win FKP 32 is loud and I don't think it is.
Thanks much!
I would say the stock fan is okay for stock speeds. Anything above I'd ditch the _____. You get my point. The FOP38 (or anything similar with the Delta 38) is quiet compared to a jet engine. It is definitely the loudest fan I've ever used, and God knows I've used em all. But it's also one of the best. My Alpha PA-6035 cools my TBird 750 @ 1.05ghz....but I know the Global will do a good job too. I've always said Alphas are the best heatsinks, but my Swiftech 462A is 4 weeks away (and my pocket is 80.00 lighter). But it's all in the name of mhz.
Good luck
Hi,I just put my first system togeather and went with a 1 gig T-Bird for my first AMD chip on this past Sunday.I used the PAL6035 with a GW fan @ 38cfm,Iv just done some minor OCing to the chip tonight and have it up to 1133mhz.It idel's at 28c and full load at 35c,I used a thin layer of Artic Silver.I think this hs/f is doing a great job and I got it from www.2cooltek.com.It's a little noisier then my old system but not bad at all.
