I have a old mobo just sitting around and was thinking of a crazy mod to do with it. I'm thinking of mounting it in a picture type frame and hanging it on my wall behind my computer. that way when i want to see what its up to i just have to plug a monotor into it. No to my question This is going to be for the most part a caseless job, I've seen others do the same type of thing before and I was wondering what do you use for the power switch to turn it on with? Also what all needs to be hooked up such as HDD led, reset switch, power led, speaker? any help would be great thanks.

well you could hook up whatever you wanted. As for poweron you could rip an old front panel board from the case it was in (or another old case) or you could buy a power button. If you want to go ghetto just short out the pins every time you need to do soemthing (screwdriver works well here) im assuming its not gonna be turned on or off much since you would just plug in a monitor to check up on it(ie run all the time for folding or sumthin) You dont need an HDD led if you can hear the HDD and you dont need a power LED if you can hear the fans spinning :P. As for a speaker-useless except for boot error codes as far as im concerned.

np, not many up at this hour but i am, will crash in an hour or so from lack of sleep though. im interested in how you plan on mounting this board? When you say picture frame are you speaking literally or do you just mean screwed into a board on the wall? how do you plan on mounting drives?

Screwdrivers make a good power on switch in cases like this (pun intended :) )

you could also be really daring and try licking the jumper switches HAHA :p

*edit* just be sure your face doesnt get caught in the CPU fan when the thing spins up ;)

Sad thing is i use a screwdriver to turn on my server. Jump the power pins, viola. Its in a Lexan cube if that helps. Just wouldnt look right with switches.

I stole a jumper to do the same thing as a screwdriver, whatever works.

Only thing, though, is Id plan some bracket-like thing to hold the PCI and AGP in place, as the slot allows for a lot of play and you're going to have this thing mounted sideways. I wouldn't trust it by itself :p.

A picture frame is a really good idea, though. Be patient, and it will come out awesome :).
