Hiya

I'm looking to upgrade the HSF that came with my XP2400+
It came with some sort of Coolermaster, but I'd like to drop the temps so I could start o/cing.

The Coolermaster is used with the standard thermal strip, and I plan to use some AS3 with whatever the new HSF is.

I have these to choose from:

Thermaltake Volcano 6 CU 5+ 4.50 5.29

Thermaltake Volcano 7+ Vari-Speed 5+ 16.00 18.80

Thermaltake GeForce 4 Copper H/Sink 2 8.50 9.99

Zalman Silent Heatpipe VGA Cooler 5+ 22.00 25.85

Zalman Passive Chipset Cooler Out 6.00 7.05

I am in the UK, so prices are in Pounds.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

the V9 is the best of all of those HS IMO...have ran quite a few of those same ones and the V9 has given the best temps and OC out of the all...

have you checked out what the prices of a slk-800a?...after getting one of these...I won't go back to anything else...and a slk-800a with a Tt2 smartfan will definetly be better by far then a V9 with a Tt2 fan on it...

The slk-800 is way too pricey for me (£45)

slk-700 is £21, that still a good heatsink?

the thermaltake fan 2 is £10.

Yes/no?

I'd agree with slater3333uk on the sk7. Excellent performance. The price diff isn't worth the performance for the 800/900's IMO.

I bought my SLK 800 from SVC for 35 bucks shipped. Well worth the money. I am running a xp2400 also. I was using a Volcano 9 before my temps were idle at 48 load at 53 after SLK and some AS 3 it now idles at 41 load at 44

Are you overclocking at all, coz my idle temps are a bit better than yours were with a Volcano, I'm using a standard Coolermaster HFS with only a thermal strip.

Mebbe I got a good case cooling system set up or summat?

Whats SVC?

I get priced this from overclockers.co.uk:
Thermalright SK-7 (Socket A) (HS-006-TR) 1
£19.50 £19.50
ThermalTake Smart Case Fan II with "Coolmod" (FG-000-TH) 1
£9.00 £9.00
Arctic Silver III Thermal Compound (3g) (OA-002-AC) 1
£3.95 £3.95
Subtotal £32.45
Shipping (Royal Mail Recorded Signed For (1st Class)) £5.62
VAT £6.66
Total £44.73

Cheers for the input btw people :)

I am OCed...running at 1.6v's on a 1700...with my SLK-800 and 92mm tornado...idles at case temps...5c over case temps at full load...using AS 1

Using a Tt2...1c over case temps at idle 9c over case temps at full load...using AS 1

When I go up to 1.7 - 1.75v's (max of the board)...idle temps are 2c over at idle and 8c over at full load using the 92mm tornado...

Tt2 at 1.7-1.75v's...idle temps at 5c over at idle and 12c over at full load...

Just too let you know...a coolmod Tt2 fan will not fit on a SLK-800a...it is right between the 25 - 38mm settings...already tried to mount a Tt2 coolmod fan to mine...ended up taking it back...glad it was a local dealer I bought it from...

my idles are a little high, mainly because my comp sits upstairs (ambient is around 75-78 degrees F) if i take it downstairs it drops to around 37 idle.

If you haven't done so..one or two sidemounted blowhole fans will help when having your system upstairs...make sure it is mounted directly across the CPU and if using more then one...the other one should be located right across the AGP slot...

Muchos gracias, saved me some cash there :)

overclockers.co.uk dont have any other thermaltake fans tho, and my other regular suppliers dont stock the slk-7 (or any other thermalright products)

Will it fit the SLK-7?

haven't used that one...but odds are it wont since it uses the same clips and clip mounting holes as the slk-800 does...

overclockers.co.uk does have the regular Tt2 fans...click on case fans, then 80mm...will be 2nd from the last...hopefully those prices are not US...not at 40.00/per...

Just to get a general idea of how high even that downstairs temp is...i have mine oc'ed at 1,725/2172Mhz and my idle/load is 32/38...and i dont have an slk :)
