View Full Version : SOT: Midi In/Out Port
I have an asus a7v8x-x mother board with a header for a midi connector, and I do alot of audio recording and usings synths so I need a midi/game port, but the MB didn't come with one.
Does anyone know where I can find one??? The Asus website says its an "accessory" but I can 't find it anywhere.
The only things I can find take up a 5 1/4 drive bay and have 2 usb ports, a midi port, and temp display... all for 30 or so dollars.
I just need the midi port on a bracket for the back of my computer.
If there is an easy way to make one that I'm not thinking of that would work as well. Also, I would probably pay to buy one if somebody has one they aren't using.
Any help is really appreciated
Thanks.,

Most if not all sound cards have a midi port on them. And senice you said you don't a bunch of stuff with sound I would think you would want a good quality sound card and not some cheap on board sound..... Unless the sound quality on the board is great already but any way. Best and cheapest way (i think) would be to buy a sound card with a midi port on it.

Those things that go in the 5 1/4" bays are only extensions. They won't create a MIDI port on your computer, they will only extend an existing one from the back.
I am getting protools soon, so this is a temporary fix (since I don't have another $650 right now)
I don't need to create a game port, the motherboard has the header for it (just like a front USB header that you connect to built in ports on a case) I just need a cheap dh15 and cable so I can hook up the pins, and then plug in a midi cable.
Guess I'll just get a USB -> Midi converter.

oh .. i've got one of those from my brother's epox board, but he doesn't use it.
shoot me a PM.
:edit: nevermind, my brother doesn't want to get rid of it. Sorry.
Darn that would have been perfect!
Oh well... I was too slow on the draw to get you to mail it out the instant you finished posting the reply
Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm just going to take the easy way out and get a usb adapter from radio shack. They have one with two gameports for 15 bucks.
Thats reasonable I think. ;)
Thanks though Funk, I appreciate the gesture.

Your Welcome :D
All my brother does on his comptuer is game, so he may need to use a joystick in the future anyway.
Its cool man.
The adapter at radio shack is only 15 bucks and will let me have a joystick AND a synth connected at the same time, so it will work out swell.
If ya ever need anything just let me know.

PM me if you're still looking. I may have a spare Asus game port/usb kicking around at work.
