I have a trackball, and I want it to send data via USB into the computer (not as a mouse, I want the PC to read the data and record it).

The Trackball is 5v. It has 4 Data Wires and 2 Power Wires (external power). I want to record the data each wire carries into seperate parts of a database.

I wanted to know how you would go about it. How many volts can USB 1.0 handle? What ohm resistor would be needed to accomplish this? Thanks.

I can also use Serial or Parallel ports as well, by the way.

I don't have an answer, sorry. But I was just wondering where you were going with this? What are you going to use the trackball for after you figure out the voltage?

The computer will read all 4 lines of the trackballs output and store them into a database. It will save the database. At a later date, with another program, it will send the data, exactly the same, out to an arcade machine.
