I have a Yamaha YSTMS201 (http://www.yamahamultimedia.com/yec/products/speakers/ystms201.asp). I was wondering if I could replace the two speakers with a pair of SSI speakers, and how. I also have another subwoofer that is better.

How would I do this with a budget of $0 and only 2 Mini-RCA adapters to my name?

you can simply splice in any other speakers as long as they can run off the power supplied buy the system at the same impedance

impewha? I am not an audiophile, as you can tell.

oh, you mean ohms?

Ok:

Yamaha System:

30W Total Power
6W per satellite + 18W for subwoofer
Input Sensitivity: 200mV (1kHz, 4 ohms at rated power)
SSI Speakers:
Max Input Power: 40w
Impedance: 8ohms

Its about the power that is already supplied by the amp. What he means is that you could simply splice into the wires that are wired to the speakers that are present. If the amp can power both then it should work. Your sound quality would be diminished and with a 0$ budget I dont think its worth the time.

1 more thing you shhould learn to use the edit button. I mean you posted 3 times within 3 hours. Thats not nearly enough time to get a decent response. Some might take that as spamming.

You can cut the yamaha speakers off and connect the SSI speakers. You won't hurt anything.

I would not try and power all 4 speakers off the same amp though.

Is that what you were asking for?

wasnt suggesting that he power all 4 off the amp.. i meant splice in the new ones in place of the old speakers... just check to make sure your new speakers can actually run off of 6 wats at 4 ohms which is a pitiful amount... if you dont know the specs on your other speakers all you have to do is hook em up and see if they work.. if they dont or sound like **** then they need more power
*edit oops i shoulda read more carefully* your other speakers probably will work off that power but not well.. if theyre 40 watt max at 8 ohms they need a bit more oomph than 6 watts

Oops... I should've read more carefully too... I thought it said 18w at 4ohms ... they will work but won't be loud at all and will probably sound pretty dull.

Try it and see... Otherwise there are plenty of cheap amps around that will work well for those.
