I just reinstalled XP. I swapped out my kt266/1.2g Athlon for a 8k3a+/1700+ (default). Same video card, same driver... new problem. When I set my resolution to 1280x1024 it doesnt set the monitor right. I have to scroll around with the mouse to navigate the entire screen. A quick analogy is like when you scroll a map playing an rpg. I am stuck at 1024x768 :(

Also when I change settings it occasionally blacks out monitor and comes back.

Time for a newer driver?

I've had the same problem, but I'm not sure what caused it as I ended up reinstalling everything.

But I'm starting to think it's my monitor as I fixed a PC for a friend yesterday and the opposite happened, I had a big black border under and above the desktop, when I switched to my main rig (dual inputs, BNC & D-Sub) and later switched back everything was fine again.

Maybe it has to do with H/V Sync (bad connection)??

I would definitely try a new driver or at least reinstall the current driver.

BTW: Did you select the right monitor in display properties?

I fixed it. Not before I updated drivers, cursed any bad relationship between ATI & Epox, reinstalled XP, again cursed ATI and EPOX, tried to install my monitor driver but it was only for 2k and below :( and I even went as far as to blame my KVM switch... wasnt any of those.

Apparently under the settings tab in the display properties the dropdown menu for 'displays' had the multiple monitors selected. It would deselect it until I removed the other monitor adapter thing (Svideo?) rebooted and then all was well.

Thanx for your time KorB

I should thank you, as that was most likely my problem as well (except for the black borders).

Thanks.

The black borders is usually fixed by a monitor adjustment. I get that all the time with my 17" test rig monitor. I go from PC to PC and all have different resolutions and the monitor does auto adjust I guess.

The ATi drivers think that your monitor can't support that resolution because the monitor drivers weren't installed. All you have to do is go click on the displays tab in the ATi driver panel, click on monitor and UNcheck the 'use dcc info' check box (you can then set your own max res/refresh). Of course the other solution is to install the monitor drivers (not in your case if the drivers wouldn't work).

I just explained the problem ^^^ I never had this problem before. I havent installed the monitor driver in the longest time. I have taken my monitor up tp 1600x1200 before this and after I fixed it.
