When I got my water cooling kit, I remember putting in boiled water, will it mess up the insides of the waterblock? its not tap, it was boiled then cooled, is this alright to use?? along with some coolent concentrate which thermaltake provided.

i don't mean to jump to conclusions

are you saying that it isn't tap because you boiled it? claiming that you distilled it yourself?
or was it already distilled, and you boiled it anyway?

if the latter is the answer, why would you bother boiling it?

It's tap water that he boiled, thus it's no longer "tap water" since it's distilled... which tap water isn't.

Boiled tap water should be fine.
At least I have never had any problems using it ;)

It is possible to go completely crazy in the search for the best possible coolant fluids, which is fine if you enjoy the search.....but the law of diminishing returns does apply: distilled water with a small amount of additives to prevent corrosion and growth does as well or better than most.

Check out the Cooling Stickies for a massive write up on coolants and additives and the results :)

Umm, boiled water is not distilled. (when you boil and cool it in the same container).

You have to boil out in a sealed container that has an outlet at the top. The steam goes out the top and through a cooling tube to another container and after it reliquifies, THEN it's distilled.

But not many people keep a distilling kit handy, too close to what you need to make whiskey
:D
"Really officer, I use it to distill water for my computer, not make whiskey" :D

Why anyone would try to save the buck or two it costs at the grocery store to buy a gallon of distilled water is beyond my comprehension... :bang head

See y'all soon in the "How do I fix my corroded waterblock" forum. :D

Yup boiled watter isn't distilled. It's even worst since you lost water so the concentration of minerals is even higher ! We are learning that in Sc. Phy. class ;) . And getting distilled water is so easier like dutchcedar said...

You can make it distilled in an easy way :)

Take tap water... LOTS OF TAP WATER :)

Put it on the stove... put a cloth on top of the container covering it all... after it starts boiling with glove sor somethign to protect you from the heaty take the cloth off geta new container and squeeze the moisture from the cloth.. just a bit will come down at a time so keep doing it again and again..

It's how we used to distill oru water when i did foreign AID in kosovo :)

BELEVIE me it take sa LOOOOOOOOOOONG time but it works :)

But here in the good ole' USofA we got these new-fangled things called supermarkets... which is why we don't have to dig up our own potatoes, milk our own cows or do our own water distilling for our 'puters. :D

I'll say it again... why anyone would try to save the buck or two it costs at the grocery store to buy a gallon of distilled water is beyond my comprehension... :bang head

so if i buy distilled water and flush the other boiled water out, where can i get some coolant concentrate to mix with the water? the one thermaltake sent me ran out, what should i mix it with?

You should run straight distilled water through your system a couple (or a few) times (10 minutes or so, each time)... to help clear out all the garbage (minerals, etc.)... then run distilled water and your favorite additive. ;) My personal choice is Water Wetter, which can be bought at good auto parts stores or from PC water cooling sites. BTW... a little goes a long way.

Good luck...
