I NEED HELP !! do I have a bad processor or MB or am I doing something wrong

okay ... I did a standard install (MB, Chip, HD, floppy, fan etc.) power up ... green light on ... but

no beeps
no sound (have green audio plug connected)vocal post msgs.

removed video card (ATI)
and replaced with Nvidia MX 400 - no good.

searched forums ... and tried suggestions ...

reset CMOS - power off / remove battery / set jumpers / (1hr) replaced
batter - no good

removed HD - no good
removed floppy - no good
removed memory - no good
replaced memory w. pc 2100 samsung - no good

Removed MB - and placed on anti-static mat on cardboard box to make sure there were not shorts ... nada

had only video card installed ... no beeps no post msgs.

replaced old mb (shuttle Ak31 w. 1.4 tbird) to power supply (enermax 365 w ps) and video card (ATI) power --- beeeep ! boots to BIOS (so I can assume the card is good and the PS is good)

as last resort I just removed the processor and heat sync and powered
up ASUS w. nothing installed ... get voice msg - "no processor installed"

Now what ?? I am running out of options ...

When i put mine together, i had the same problem. It took me a good 2 hours of messing with it to get it to post. Reseat the ram into the #3 slot, i think thats how i got it to post, playing musical ram until it posted.

could be bios death issue but you haven't booted yet

if you have a 100fsb proc try putting that in, put your tbird in and see what happens

could also be your case or that you haven't connected your case properly to the mobo, short the atx power switch jumpers and see if that gets it going, look under 'system panel connector' to see where that jumper in paticular is at

it could just be a bad board, you may have to rma...

i just had the same problem with my mobo

except mine was rev 1.06

it just died, i RMA'd it and they gave me a 1.04

not too happy about it but can't do anything about it

if your have a spare proc layin around throw it in.easy way to see if your barton is blown.

I had the same issue, RMA'd my Rev. 1.06 and got a Rev. 2.0 in return.

I got lucky I guess. Now to try this copper under the NB with AS3 thing I have been hearing about.

guys, it sounds like Im having the same problem with this computer Im building...

I start it up, I have to short the pins, my switch is broken or something, and all that happens is my keyboard lights blink... the fans and everything else go on, but nothing else....

Check out a few things before you throw the gernade at it!...

We have the same mobo and 2500+ barton etc... With the VID card IN... it will not fire up with no card, but... Look and see if you have a digital monitor, you need to boot with it set to analog and then load drivers for monitor for digital. That was a weird one too!

Also, take out the vid card drivers and reload the latest good ones.

last, ours did it again when our power supply had an issue.

Hope you get it going, C ya

Happy Trails,
