Ram works but not with another stick?!?

My friend's lil brother's alienware came with a gig of pc2100 ddr like 5 months ago. (2x512) One day it randomly wouldnt post and we took out the ram and tested it, and it would work wiht one or the other stick of ram but not both at the same time. WE figured out which one was the broken one with a 3rd stick of ram, but noow i have this stick and i really wanna put my 256 meg stick in there with this 512 but cant. Ne idea's on how to get it to run? prime95 benchmarks are prretty good on the 512 sitck, it just doenst like being around other ram.... big stupid anti social ram!

edit - o yeah... when both are in there (i tryed switching them between the 1st and 3rd dimms), it just sees the 256 meg stick and works fine, but only wiht the 256 :(

If you have tried other computers with this ram then it's bad. I would contact Alienware about it. It should still be under warranty.

errr nvm then... cause if it worked right my friend would want it back :) it wouldnt make since for him to keep it now cause he has a gig of ddr in his comp and his bro still has half a gig.... im gonna keep this ram for a lil while
