View Full Version : NEC 1760NX my initial thoughts.
Well i just recieved my new 17" NEC 1760NX and after hooking it up with the DVI cable i got off ebay here are my thoughts:
I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A CRT EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER AGAIN
Zero dead pixels is always a plus
Its so crisp and clear compaired to my crappy old monitor that was like 14" or something. ITs sooo much bigger. I just cant say enough. As for everthing else like ghosting. I havnt played any games YET but im going to run a 3dmark to see if that shows anything. What would be some other good ways to test it. I dont have any of the Unreal, Quake, etc games to test with that.
Ill post some results after messing with it some more.
well i didnt see any trailing or ghosting during a couple of 3dmark runs. I did notice that the dark spots are darker than on my other monitor.

Got mine in May and loving it ! No ghosting or trailing I can see in MOHA, Battlefield, RTCW,Nascar, or Unreal. I have a 10 ft desk with my other systems Mitsubishi 17" CRT 3 ft away from the NEC. With the same game running on both systems, the NEC is more vivid and crisper.
Yes, with extremely dark games like RTCW and 3Dmark, the dark screen shots are a very deep black and can be adjusted if you wish. Black is Black, not a shade of gray on this LCD, which gives this monitor such richness and detail . Love the response time !
With the two monitors running side by side, A picture is worth a thousand words.
I agree with everthing you say. This is a great monitor. I tried the dsub against the DVI and the DVI really does look sharper.
How much did you pay for your DVI cable?
$9.99 with free shipping. I couldnt find one for a better price anywhere.
Nice, I'm prolly going to end up getting that screen. I've been trying to decide but I have no money right now so it will have to wait

What method did you use to check for dead pixels ?
Download " Wolfenstein Enemy Territory". It's a multiplayer version and free ! Might have to try a few different locations cause it's a free download and the servers are full most of the time. It'll give you a chance to push that responce time when everybodys starts blasting in a small room.
Well I dont know how effective this method is of looking for dead pixels but i just pretty much look at the screen extremely closely when it is different colors. If there is one. I cant see it and it doesnt bother me at all. Ill try the wolfenstein

The easiest way to locate bad pixels is to set your desktop to [none] and color to black. Then enter settings and adjust gamma (if you can) to look for half dead ones. Repeat the process with a white background.
Be sure you're directly in front of the monitor, an individual pixel is hard to see at an angle.
But basically if you haven't noticed any in a day's normal use then it doesn't bother you anyway...

Thanks Ugmore,
That 's quicker than me using MS Paint. I should count my blessings as I have no dead pixels after testing with 10 solid colored back grounds. Good enough for me!
smesx1: where'd you get the NX for 425 shipped? That's a great price.
Nobody does it like EEEEEEEEEEEEBBBBAY!
(pathetic attemt at sounding like the song on the ebay comercial)

smesx1,
Where did you buy your DVI cable at? Is there a specific kind, brand, or model cable you use for you NEC 1760NX.
I just bought a NEC 1760NX and don't know which DVI cable to buy. Sorry for not knowing anything about DVI cable.

I wanna know too. I'm buying one later today or tomorrow. :D
Hey oc,
The cables you were looking at on that site in your other post would be the ones you need ... The DVI-D ( Digital ) Cables..

Thanks SonicB it's look like your right about that. I've been reading about DVI cable and stuff, then realize that mine takes the DVI-D cable.
My Sapphire 9500NP have a DVI-I connection and the monitor have a DVI-D, so DVI-D cable should be ok for it.
Thanks again.

I just got mine today! Just in time for my birthday. :)
It's great for quake 3. I can't notice any ghosting. However, I had to turn up the contrast to get Ravenshield to the point where I could see everything super well, but I don't know if you're supposed to be able to see "everything" in the night levels of that game.
So far, I'm extremely happy with it. :D

If you have the time, why don't you post your results in the sticky?

I just received this monitor today, as well. When first hooked up, it appears rather bright. What have you guys set the brightness/contrast levels to? Unfortunately, another of the first things I noticed was a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. It's pretty obvious from all angles and colors except balck. I guess I'll just have to live with that.
One other thing that's rather annoying is a window that keeps popping up whenever something is running at less that 1280x1024. Do you guys get this? Can it be turned off?

spiral529 ,
You can turn that off in the controller on the monitor. If you look into the manual it'll explain how to turn it off. I can't remember how(I'll look into more when I get home from work), and I did that to mine and the warning doesn't appear anymore.
i love the fact that they auto align to the sides of the screen :D

NEC's NaViset software, available for download Here (http://www.necmitsubishi.com/naviset) provides several screens for checking the pixels. It also allows you contol all the monitor settings with mouse and keyboard. It does require a digital connection to the graphics card. Check out the FAQs before installing. I put it on my FX5800 and no problems whatsoever.:)
