Can someone shed alittle light on AMD naming? ATHLON, DURON, Thunderbird ? Is one better than another? Can one overclock farther or easier to OC?
Have always run intel Pentium, II, III and celeron and thinking maybe It's time to make a move to AMD . Presently running PIII 850 @ 1003 maxed out and ABIT SH6 just depressed as hell compared to some OC that AMD owners are doing.

The athlon is the general name kind of like the name Pentium is for Intel. The original chip was called Athlon (now referred to as classic) and was a slotted processor with 512kb of half speed L2 cache. The Thunderbird is a socket version of the Athlon with 256kb of full speed L2 cache. The Duron is an Athlon with 64kb of full speed L2 cache. Not to sure of witch is more overclockable.

AMD rulez...period. Intel sucks, when you are using an intel cpu, you get to pay over double price, multiplier locked crap. Your paying for those stupid ass commericals that have those 3 tarded blue guys in it. Not only that, look at the numbers, the numbers don't lie, AMD cpus (give the right chipsets) will out perform intel hands down. And don't even get me started on the P4 crap...oh man, if anyone bought one of those...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...you got booty raped. ;D
Hey METAXES, I'm getting ready to hook up two 30G GXP's to a Kt7a-raid setup and not sure about how to go about partitioning. Should I partition both hdd or just FAT 32 or maybe i'm just way off on the subject. Set me straight on the it if ya can.

Think of it as having one fast ass hd. The OS will see it as just one hd. FAT32 is standard now a days anyways. I just chunked mine out in 2 sections. C has 6192 Megabytes, and D has the rest. That's ok for now, as my system is dead due to a bad ram stick, and I will most likely have to reinstall the OS anyways...for the 5th time.....DOH... :(

T-Bird are just the new Athlons they are 256k cache, and generally overclock well but not as well as Durons which only have 64k cache but ocevclock EXTREMELY well-look in the cpu database some of the duron 600 can actully double the mhz or MORE thats insane-but personally if your gonna OC get a duron, and if ya just want some clear non OCed speed get a Tbird 1 gig or more plus the Duros are Way cheaper
