View Full Version : T bird in the Slot A box ??
I seen about 6 of these this weekend at a flea market type place a couple 750s and I think some 900s are these any good for any thing or are the just mutants ? If they were to replace a 750 Athlon classic would it be worth the effort and coast $80 (or so ) I have an old MSI K7pro slot A board.
They have the fullspeed on-die cache, and if you can pick up a 900 for $80 that's a hell of a deal.
If that board has the Via 133 chip set the slot 900 thunderbird will more than likely have problems with it. If its AMD 650 chip it will work great.

I've got a friend with a Abit KA7 and he wants to order a Slot A Thunderbird off Pricewatch. Do the Slot A tbirds not work on KX133 boards? doesn't make any sense to me that they wouldn't because the KX133 is basically no different from the KT133 except KX is slot A and KT is socket A. Does someone know the full story on this? thanks

From what I understand, it's iffy on a KX133. They do it at the first URL below. There's a guy at k7v.com PO'd cuz he tried it and his classic ran better. It can be done on an AMD chipset, a friend of mine is running a Slot A tbird on an Asus K7M. There is some difference between the KX133 classic and Tbird boards. For example, you can mod an Asus K7V into a K7V-T, but you have to fine-solder some resistors at just the right spots and rearrange about four capacitors (see the last two URLs, the middle one will require babelfish unless sie sprechen deutch)

I have an Abit ka7 w/ 700@850 t-bird slot-a. Anything over 850 and the Abit takes a dump. The KX133 has a problem with any t-bird over 850. Why? Idunno. I've tried looking for answers, but most of the time nobody can see the "slot-a" I put after of the 700t-bird and they give me answers like "you can't run a t-bird on the ka7, it won't fit" or something just as intelligent. Anyway, yes it will work on the ka7, but nothing over 850. At least not that I've seen and I've been looking long and hard.
Asus makes a K7V-T mobo for the T-bird chip.
You can try to buy the mobo @ www.pricewatch.com
Also, there is a source in Canada that sells this board.
