View Full Version : K6-2 Voltage Problems...who do I believe?

Had an interesting problem at work. On a K6-2 machine, the system was periodically rebooting. Ok, sounds like a power problem. The BIOS is telling me voltages are fine, but I ran two hardware monitoring programs, both of which were tellng me the +12v was running at about 8v (not good!), that the +5 was @ 5.51, and the vcore which I had set at 2.2 was @ 2.9.

Obviously not good numbers if they are true....the processor is running at about 109F. Should I believe these programs or stick to the BIOS for numbers?

I would probably believe the HW monitoring programs. It is not that unusual for a mobo to put out a little (a lot) more or less juice than it and you think. The newer epox boards regularly seem to do this to the core voltage (see forums at amdzone). If the machine is acting up and you have evidence that it is a juice problem, I would look their first. Could it be your ps and not the mobo? Good luck.

PS was first on my list. I too was putting my faith in the hw monitoring programs...especially when two different ones confirmed the same thing. Went out to compusa and bought a 250w ps for 25 bucks...gotta install it before the day is done. Should do the trick.\
