I have an lcd that is hd44780 but I don't wanna cutup my printer cable to use it, it has a connector that looks like this http://www.angelfire.com/extreme2/tricks/use_this_lcd_pic.jpg

can I buy a controller card or something for it?

That looks the same as I remember mine looking......and I removed that and wired it up to an old printer cable that I hacked up.


Mine came from an old Compaq server cube case.

Sorry amigo, but I think you'll either need to hack up a printer cable OR get hold of a bare connector and wire it up yourself.

crap I had the printer connector but I reallt didn't want to do any soldering, ah well guess Im gonna have to, thanks for the info

that is a plug like off of a dongle cable. if your motherboard has a header for it.. is it serial or paralell, tho?

I think it's a serial connector but I have no idea how it connects

some old AT motherboards had the serial and parallel ports on cables plugged into headers on the board. It probably plugged into something similar.

Slightly bigger than a serial header connector, right?

As I said, the one I have had a proprietary connector to a pcb that also had the on/off and reset buttons, speaker and a few more things mounted to it. It is a proprietary connector for the LCD and won't work connecting to anything else without modification, I believe.

Not big enough to fit on a mobos parallel header either- even if you have a mobo with a parallel port header.
