View Full Version : I just bought a tbird1.1ghz with blue core! but got some heat problems.....
for one week ago i bought a tbird1.1ghz that seems to have a blue core. im thinking of ocing it but the temp is WAY to high on the default speed. It got 46-47 idle and over 50c when using seti and i got the fop38. After i installed 2 chase fans i got the temp down to 38-40idle and around 43-45 while running seti.after i decreased core voltage too 1.650 i got the temp down too 35c idle and around 40 under load. so if i buy a fop38 am i then able to overclock it to 1.3ghz or atleast 1.2??? or is this chip a BAD one???
I really would like an reply

Don't worry about your temps. 45C under load at default voltage is fine. It could be cooler, but you can still easily raise the voltage to 1.85 and you shouldn't go much above 50C, if that high. Bear in mind that most tbirds run 50-55C at default speed and voltage with stock cooling, and your temps look quite cool :)
See how high you can take it with 1.85V - but also remember the trick mentioned recently on the oc.com homepage of lowering the voltage or keeping it at default (though I think that only applies to 1.2gig tbirds). You're in no danger of frying your chip at those temps, so don't worry :-)
im glad to hear that!!! Also i just downloaded cpucool and when i runned it it dropped the idle temps from 35-37 down to 26c!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But the weird things is when i turn the program off it still stays at that idle temps and the heatsink seems alot colder but the temp is the same for load its just the idle temp that is alot lower!!! may be the prog that is fooling the via_hardware monitor but it seems colder.
whats the difference between the blue and other cores?
ppl say they are more overclockable but i dunno. Havent tried to oc mine yet

whats the difference between the blue and other cores?
blue core: manufactured in dresden, germany. use copper interconnects in construction. generally higher overclockers.
green core: from austin, texas, usa. use aluminium.. generally don't get as high.
all tbirds manufactured after june of 2000 will have copper interconects but will still have different color die
so if all tbirds manu after 6/2000 are copper,is there a manu. date somewhere on it so you will know what you are getting ?? my question is ..how to make sure you are getting a copper cpu ?? also is this an advantage of tbird over duron ? if all duron's are alum.
