i'm looking to build a good, quiet, compact cooling system, and the compact rules out water cooling, which is what i would normally go for. my idea is to hook up heat pipes to my cpu and vid card, run the heat over to a HSF combo (actually, several HSF connected with a heat spreader) that will be mounted on the side of the case. my first question is, will this work well? perhaps it would be a better idea to use two different areas, one for the cpu and one for the vid card but i just figured if i can make it all one piece, might as well.
this so far is nothing special and i've found some information on heatpipe performances. I imagine that using a bigger, better HSF on the end of the heatpipe would improve performance. but i'm wondering if i should use any peltier units since they are both quiet and small (though i do have to think about another power supply).
would peltier units help in this situation? and where should they be placed... between the cores and the heat pipes or between the heatpipes and the HSF's? or both?
... the one advantage of having the peltiers between the HSF and heatpipes is i shouldn't have to worry about condensation assuming i can direct the dripping away from the computer parts.
any suggestions and concerns would be greatly appreciated.
