View Full Version : Duron Heat issue
I have no idea what is going on with my chip and it is starting to irritate me. I had a 600 that ran at 30C with an alpha 6035 and a sunon fan 22cfm. I got an asus a7v133 and clocked her to 866. Temp went to 60c and I tried to adjust it and fubared the chip. I now have a 750 duron. Running at stock she is 50c. This is with the same cooling setup that kept the other chip at 30. This seems quite rediculous to me. I don't think there should be that much of a difference at stock. Is 50 about par for this chip? Any suggestions? I have the fan blowing into the sink. I will try flipping it, but I don't think it will matter too much.

are you using good thermal paste? or any thermal paste?! and do you have any case airflow? it's no good if your processor is dumping all this heat onto your hsf, and the hsf just dumps it into the case and it can't go anywhere.
Right now the case is open, and there is good flow away from the heatsink. Yes I have thermal grease on there. Not arctic, but the same stuff I have used in the past with acceptable results.
I got a brain flash here about 20 min ago. I manually set the jumpers and switches on the mobo. I set it to default with voltage 1.525-1.55 according to the book. I let it run doing the exact same apps (watching a movie, downloading, and some minor surfing) and she is purring at 42C. 8 degrees under what it was when the bios was handling it on it's own. And yes everything was set at default, speed, voltage, hell even the ram speed was at default. The fact that there's an 8 degree dif really blows me away. I'm still not content at 42, but it will do for now. I have some fans coming and some major modification that has to happen to the case and I'll be good to go.

I have a bit of a different problem with mine - my 700 when clocked to 750 will idle at 26 C for about 30-45 mins and then it idles at like 35 C (set to 1.6 volts, which is mobo default). It doesnt matter if I am running anything or if anything is open - the temp just magically rises. I had it to 950 but it would do the same thing, idle at 33-34 C and then after about 30-45 mins it would idle it 43 (set to 1.825 volts). I don't like this!! I have an Enlight case woth 250 watt power supply, could this have anything to do with it? Would a 300 Watt solve this? I know I need a new PS anyway but I am wondering if changing it will solve this problem. Thanks

my sulution to heat was to put an exsaust port from my HSF directly out of the side of my case.... once the heat from my cpu no longer entered my case both temps droped alot!
the only two fans that im using are the HSF and PSU full load 37cpu 19-21 system temp ;D

WOW 50c!? On a Duron 750 stock? Thats high man, what is your voltage set to!? Do you have good thermal grease? Have you tried a different Fan, perhaps an Orb or a new alpha?
Running at stock, my barely made it past 32C, may be something with your OS. I don't have that much experience with the Asus other than what I've read, but no, 50C isn't really par for this chip at stock! theres something else happening here. I'd try switching fans, especially before overclocking!
I've got my 750 o/c by 150Mhz and it barely breaks 35C when I'm gaming UT! Check that OS, Fan, HS, and Thermal Grease AND that voltage!
Good luck!
Try buying a new fop32. had the same problem with my tbird1.1. would stay at 47c idle at its default speed and over 50c loaded. then i went to the store an bought a new one and temp went down to 40c idle. then i bought some chase fans and now its around 30c idle at 1.2ghz but over 40c loaded.
